Mercury Cougar - Wikipedia 07/07/2020

If you were attending Annunciation at the time Ford Motor Company introduced the Mercury Cougar (1967) - do you remember them sending one to our school, parking it on the concrete in front of the main school entry and pics taken with the Cougars cheerleaders siting on and around the cool Cougar car? My understanding was they were planning on using it in an advertising campaign. To my knowledge it never became a reality. Too bad - cool car - cool idea - and the coolest school and students!

This is in our church, Annunciation, which is now an Art Gallery. For those of us who know and love our church you will still SEE the original art and beauty shining through. However, I must say this modern art piece is stunning and very peaceful. 💕

We have had quite a few visitors and likes on our page. I would really appreciate each person posting their name (including maiden name or name when at Annunciation) as well as their years attended and graduation year. Thanks much.
If anyone is interested in another All Alumni Reunion please say so (last I believe was in 2000).

I know some already know but for all - the Archdiocese sold our church, rectory and surrounding property last year. The church has been turned into an Art Gallery and the rectory a residence of some type (possibly B&B). I was by a few weeks ago and spoke with the new owner. At the time the layers of carpet and linoleum had been removed and the beautiful original terrazzo tile was being restored so I was unable to go inside. He told me just prior to him purchasing the property, vandals had broken in through the church roof above the alter and took a sledge hammer and destroyed the marble communion rail across the front of the church in order to steal the ornate iron panels throughout the railing. In the process also broke one of the windows above the alter.
I have seen some pics since and it definitely has been changed inside including What appears to be painting over the beautiful ceiling and wall murals throughout the church. I am hoping it is some modern TEMPORARY technique or covering. I plan on going back to see it for myself and will share info at that time.

The owners (a younger couple) have a number of development projects throughout downtown and the City and he said this is their passion. As heartbreaking as the church closing, being sold, and totally changed is, it was left to deteriorate since closing, and not taken care of before that. I am trying to look at it as at least someone is rescuing this amazing structure and breathing life back into it. It will always be our beloved and beautiful Annunciation. Please post comments and thoughts.
