DPSCD Staff, Families, and Students,

Please be advised that all schools and central office buildings will be open tomorrow, January 28, 2026. All students and employees are expected to return to school and work. All extra-curricular activities can take place tomorrow as well. Although temperatures will be cold near school arrival time and everyone is encouraged to wear an extra layer or two of clothes, the temperatures are forecasted to be similar to those when schools were open in the District last week and prior school years under this administration.

Despite requests from some families, students, and a few employees to consider online learning during these cold days, online learning as a replacement to in person learning is no longer permissible by the state unless a student is enrolled in a separate virtual school. Besides the challenges of online learning and ensuring all laptops used by students are returned, I thought it was important that everyone is aware of the challenge in state law. Please also know that the District will always close schools in the best interest of students, families, and employees, regardless of whether the District no longer has “forgiveness weather days” left. With that said, the State Superintendent did indicate he is willing to provide our extra three “forgiveness weather days” when/if they are needed.

Everyone should expect for schools and buildings to remain open the remainder of the week based on the current forecast. As always, we will monitor the weather throughout the week. Lastly, we are also monitoring the impact of significant city water main breaks and their possible impact on select District schools and central office buildings. If flooding and frozen water will impact a school or building tomorrow, then we will communicate a closure separately for that school or central office community through a robo call/text or email.

Thank you everyone for your patience as we work through this colder weather,

NV

DPSCD Staff, Families, and Students,

Due to expected temperatures tomorrow (1/27) at -11 degrees in the early morning with the wind chill, and the fact that the majority of our students walk to school or need to wait for a yellow school bus or city bus and many city side streets are still uncleared of snow and ice, all District schools will be closed tomorrow along with all District buildings. As you may know, this will be the District’s sixth and final “forgiveness” day for weather. We will be advocating for additional “forgiveness” days through the state superintendent. However, with that said, all students and staff should be prepared to return to school and work Wednesday through Friday despite cold temperatures.

The District will also be advocating for a two-week delay in MSTEP and P/SAT state testing to obtain more days for lost instructional days before state testing.

DPSCD Staff, Parents, and Students

Please be advised that due to forecasted temperatures tomorrow morning during arrival times at -16 degrees with the wind chill and the fact that the majority of our students walk to school or take buses, all district schools and central office buildings will be closed Friday, January 23. Also, due to predicted heavy snow over the weekend, all school and district-related activities, including athletic games and practices are cancelled through Monday.

DPSCD Staff, Families, and Students,

Please be advised that all schools and District buildings will be open tomorrow, January 21st, 2026. All students and staff are expected to attend school and work at their regular time. Snowfalls are expected tomorrow morning so please plan to leave for school and work earlier. School and building parking lots may not be completely cleared due to new snowfall. However, the expected amount of snowfall should not prevent everyone from arriving to school and work safely.

The District has now used four of its six “forgiveness” days for weather. If we use two more days and weather impacts the opening of school again after those two days are used, then we will need to make up days in June unless the state grants school districts more days of “forgiveness.”

DPSCD Staff, Families, and Students,

Please be advised that all schools and District buildings will be closed tomorrow Friday, January 16th due to uncleared side streets, expected low student attendance, and snowfall near dismissal.

School closed

DPSCD Staff, Families, and Students,

Please be advised that all schools and District buildings will be closed tomorrow (Thursday, 1/15) due tonight’s heavy snow and likely poor road conditions tomorrow morning within the City and surrounding areas.
