House Republicans passed a bill lowering the age for adult prosecution in Washington DC from 16 to 14. Roland Martin blasted the move as inhumane, saying the GOP’s only answer is “prison, prison, and more prison.” At 14 years old, children’s hearts and minds aren’t fully developed, yet the GOP wants them locked in adult penitentiaries and left to “throw the key away.” Critics stress this isn’t about justice or safety — it is about criminalizing Black and brown youth while cutting prevention funding, expanding mass incarceration, and dismantling rehabilitation programs.
