Loon Raising Orphan Gosling as its Own on Douglas Lake in Northern Michigan | U-M LSA University of Michigan Biological Station (UMBS) Marilyn Gates, the daughter of former UMBS director David M. Gates, used her 800 mm camera lens to capture an unusual moment on Douglas Lake on Sunday, June 7. A newly hatched goose rode on the back of its surrogate parent: a loon!

🚀Major kudos to alum Andre Douglas, who has been named a mission specialist for the Artemis III mission. The upcoming mission will launch into low earth orbit to prepare NASA for future moon landings. Through the Artemis program, NASA hopes to further explore the moon for scientific and economic breakthroughs and eventually bring humans to Mars.

University of Michigan alum part of NASA’s Artemis III mission Andre Douglas, who received two master's degrees from the Ann Arbor university, will partake in his first spaceflight in 2027.

We are delighted to recognize Callie Riordan, a Northville High School graduate who received the Vanessa Pawlak Memorial Scholarship. This fall, she will pursue Engineering at the University of Michigan.
