🐻💙 INTRODUCING THE BARRINGTON HILL BEAR CUBS! 💙🐴
Little Bears. Big Team Spirit.
We are so excited to introduce something very special to the Barrington Hill IEA Team — our brand-new BEAR CUBS PROGRAM!
We have so many younger equestrians who look up to our IEA riders, love our team horses, and desperately want to be part of the excitement…but aren't quite old enough to compete yet.
Now they have a team of their own. 🐻
The Barrington Hill Bear Cubs is designed for our younger riders who want to begin experiencing what it means to be part of an equestrian team — before they ever step into the IEA show ring.
Our Bear Cubs will have opportunities to:
🐴 Learn more about horsemanship and caring for our team horses
💙 Participate in special IEA team activities
📣 Cheer on and support our Barrington Hill Bears
🎃 Participate in team fundraisers and special events
🧁 Help with bake sales, horse-care projects and creative fundraising
🤝 Learn teamwork, responsibility, sportsmanship and service
🏆 Celebrate alongside our competitive IEA riders
🐻 Work toward becoming a future Barrington Hill IEA Bear!
And perhaps most importantly, our Bear Cubs will learn something we believe deeply at Barrington Hill:
Being an equestrian is about so much more than riding.
It is learning to care for the horse who carries you.
It is showing up for your teammates.
It is helping when nobody asks.
It is learning responsibility, gratitude and sportsmanship.
And it is understanding that being part of a team means contributing to something bigger than yourself.
Our Bear Cubs will also help raise funds to support the incredible horses and ponies that make our IEA program possible. These horses are the heart of our team, and we want even our youngest riders to understand the importance of giving back to the animals who give us so much. 🐴❤️
We also hope to pair our little Bear Cubs with some of our older Barrington Hill Bears, giving our competitive riders an opportunity to mentor, encourage and lead the next generation.
Someday, these little riders will be old enough to put on that Barrington Hill jacket and enter the IEA ring themselves.
Until then…
They can learn. They can help. They can cheer. They can serve. And most importantly — they can BELONG. 💙

🎂 Cake Decorating & Sweet Treat Design Partnering with local professional confectionery artists like Dip n' Design Sweets by Shelbie, this incredibly popular course for ages 8 and up is much more than a simple cake activity. While students love crafting cake pops and creating bakery-window masterpieces, the curriculum hides deep academic value:
Applied Mathematics: Students continuously calculate quantities, divide portion sizes, work with fractions, scale ingredients, and learn the critical nature of precision.
Edible Chemistry: The kitchen transforms into a living science lab where children discover the chemistry of why chocolate seizes, how temperature thresholds alter ingredients, and what happens when substances are combined.
Artistic Composition: Students build fine motor coordination and design confidence by mastering professional techniques like buttercream piping, fondant sculpting, airbrushing, and hand-modeling gum paste flowers.🐴

🎂✨ WHERE LEARNING IS PRETTY SWEET! ✨🍭
Another amazing day in Cake Decorating & Sweet Treat Design at Barrington Hill Academy!
This week, our students were busy creating cake pops and designing their own sweet treats under the guidance of the incredibly talented Miss Shelbie, a professional cake and sweet-treat maker. And while the finished creations may look like pure fun, there is SO much learning happening behind the scenes!
🍰 Math is everywhere. Students measure ingredients, work with fractions, calculate quantities, divide portions, estimate sizes, practice ratios, and learn the importance of precision.
🧪 Science comes to life. Why does chocolate seize? Why does temperature matter? What changes when ingredients are heated, cooled, mixed, or combined? Baking and confectionery work are chemistry lessons students can actually see—and taste!
🎨 Creativity & design take center stage. Students work with color, texture, balance, patterns, themes, and presentation while turning an idea in their imagination into something they can actually create.
🧠 Problem-solving happens naturally. Sometimes a cake pop cracks. Chocolate doesn't cooperate. A design doesn't look quite like the picture in your head. Students learn to adjust, troubleshoot, try again, and discover that mistakes are simply part of mastering a skill.
🤍 And perhaps most importantly, they're learning patience, attention to detail, following directions, sanitation, organization, confidence, and pride in their work.
What an incredible opportunity for our students to learn directly from Miss Shelbie and her professional experience and talent. These are the kinds of experiences that can spark a lifelong hobby—or even introduce a child to a future career or business they never knew they would love.
