Deciding to accept or reject a Pre-Match contract is probably one of the hardest decisions you would make as an IMG… 😳
​
If you have a Pre-Match offer, this single decision could potentially change the path of your entire career, so here’s what I would do if I got a pre-match offer -
​
1️⃣ If I have more than 10 interviews, I would prefer to wait for the main match because there’s a higher chance of me getting matched at least in one of the programs of my choice.
​
2️⃣ If I have just 2 or 3 interviews, then while there’s still a chance for me to get matched in the main match, it’s a much lower chance, so I would probably accept the Pre-Match offer.
​
So this decision depends upon whether you will be okay with matching into a program that may not be your best choice, or if you want to risk it and wait for the regular Match Day💁‍♂️

Indian IMGs - you REALLY need to start smiling more! 👇😇

You’re extremely intelligent, you’re super resourceful even in a foreign country, but I can’t help but notice that a lot of you are very nervous and under-confident when you first arrive for your rotations! 😳
​
This is something that I see while interviewing residency candidates as well - and while I understand that nervousness does not mean that the student isn’t smart, but if you get an interviewer who’s not as understanding, then no matter what your scores look like, it can look like a lack of proper communication skills! 🤷‍♂️
​
Programs need a resident who can communicate confidently with their team during residency, because high pressure situations where patients are involved cannot have under-confident people 💁‍♂️
​
So the easiest way to bypass this entire situation is by SMILING MORE! 😁

A smile can ease a tense situation, and your interview can go really well then onwards ✅
