The Village: A Homeschooling Community

🌲 **An Important Update About The Village** 🌲

After a great deal of thought, reflection, and many tears, I've made the difficult decision to step away from leading The Village.

As many of you know, my youngest son's health has become increasingly complex. Right now, he needs me close, available, and fully present at all times. This season of life is asking something different of me than I can continue to give while also running a community, and my family has to come first.

Because of that, **The Village will no longer continue as a formal program.**

Instead, the Facebook group will remain open as a simple community space for anyone who wishes to stay connected. You're welcome to use it to organize playdates, share homeschool resources, ask questions, encourage one another, or simply find your people. It no longer belongs to me to lead—it's simply a place for families to gather if they choose.

Leading this community has been one of the greatest privileges. Watching friendships form, seeing children grow, and walking alongside so many incredible families has been a gift I'll always treasure.

Thank you for trusting me, supporting this dream, and being part of this chapter. While I'm saying goodbye to leading The Village, I'm incredibly grateful for every memory we've made together.

I hope this group continues to be a place where families find connection, encouragement, and belonging.

I imagine kids gathering on Mondays — creating, building, asking questions, making discoveries, and learning alongside friends.

I imagine afternoons filled with art, poetry, crafts, conversations, laughter, and connection.

I imagine tweens and teens finding their place. Younger kids feeling known. Parents finding community. Families making memories in the moments between it all.

Because the best parts of homeschooling often aren’t found in a worksheet.

They’re found in the friendships.
The adventures.
The confidence.
The moments we never planned for.

That’s what we’re building here — an inclusive homeschool community where families can show up as they are, where kids can learn and grow alongside others, and where everyone has a place at the table.

And this year… we have an incredible group of families ready to step into that adventure together.

The truth is, homeschooling gets easier when you don't have to figure it all out alone. Your answer helps us create the kind of support families actually need—not just what we think they need. 🌿

“What is there for my older kid to actually do… and belong in?”

The answer, honestly, surprised us.

Because like most traditional homeschool thinking, we assumed the gap was curriculum. More engagement. More challenge. More structured learning.

So that’s what we built first.

And yes—it helped.

But the responses we got from the kids said something else entirely.

They weren’t asking for more learning.

They were asking for more doing. More together. More life.

And what we started to understand is this:

For older kids, connection actually works best when it’s built around creative interest, in familiar spaces, on consistent schedules, in short windows, and with low pressure to perform.

That’s what opens their social capacity instead of overwhelming it.

That’s what makes it safe to show up as themselves.

And when that happens—something shifts.

They stop just passing through activities… and start actually staying engaged.
And they come back to their touchstone—the Monday gather-and-learn days—not as something they have to attend, but something they belong to.

So we rebuilt everything around that rhythm:

Not extras.

They stay when life feels like it’s happening with people who feel like theirs.

And that’s what we’re building now.

We are not your traditional homeschooling program. ... on purpose.

We are not only secular and fully inclusive but approach learning differently than traditional learning environments.

We built our program around what neurodivergent children need. Those high energy, loud and loving, big feeling, hugely curious kids. The ones who; cant sit still, need more encouragement, may shout out their excitement every once and a while and/or need the space to step away when things get too much. Turns out- thats what **most kids need**.

More movement. More space for self expression. More permission to be loud. More opportunities to dive into their interests. More freedom to choose their level of comfort in participation in real time. ... More kids like them.

For those who fit traditional learning environments; GREAT. We love that for you. There are many wonderful programs out there. ... But for those kids who don't. ... We're here and we are SO excited for what this year has to offer.

Welcome to our village.

🌿 What’s in store this year for our Explorers & Pathfinders (ages 6–14)? 🌿

Honestly… a lot. Like, really good stuff.

This year at The Village Co-Op, we’re building a season full of experiences kids actually remember—things they talk about at dinner, in the car, and long after the year ends.

We’ll be going on field trips to Columbia and Charleston, exploring South Carolina history in real, hands-on ways (not just from a worksheet), and learning through the places around us.

We’ve also got:
🏕️ A spring family camping trip
🎨 A Makers Fair where kids get to show off what they’ve built and created
💛 A “Sweethearts Celebration” (our version of a dance—made to include all the important people in your child’s life, not just one kind of “date night”)
…and plenty more community moments and surprises along the way

And all of this?

💰 $35/month per family

That includes weekly gatherings that are part learning, part connection, part just letting kids be kids together in a safe, supported space.
