Some words of wisdom from the awesome Henry Winkler, because having dyslexia doesn’t change how smart you are, in fact it might make us even more resourceful!

I’ve been absent awhile. October is Dyslexia Awareness Month. As we head into October, I am so surprised at how many families contact me because their child is 1-3 years below grade level. PLEASE do not wait for your child to “catch up”. Contact me today to get your child on the road to reading success.

Celebrating 6 years in business. I can’t thank the families I work with enough. Thank you for trusting me to be a part of your child’s literacy journey. This has been my best job ever— I see how my students grow in skill and confidence and am humbled every day.

...and then to keep doing the same things that didn't work before!
It's willful ignorance, unwillingness to learn more, and total lack of concern. And sadly it's rampant. Much appreciation to the many educators who have bothered to learn and are now willing to stand up and say, "I didn't know what I didn't know, and now I feel so bad about all the kids I couldn't help." Forgiveness for not knowing is everywhere and given with grace. But when it's refusal to care, not so much. 💔 ~ Cheri Rae, author, "DyslexiaLand: A Field Guide for Parents of Children with Dyslexia"

Some of the most prolific balanced literacy educators who’ve made a lot of money on the backs of our students truly believe that the entire education system has been turned upside down for only twenty percent of the population. This means the support according to these people is only there for our students with dyslexia. This is simply not true. In fact, we’ve turned it upside down to meet the needs of MORE THAN HALF of the students in your classrooms. In addition to that is a tiresome argument saying we don’t own the research. No one is even suggesting that. The research can speak for itself. And there’s a lot of it, peeps. Like years and years of it. If you think is only for , please do the research. I’m happy to make suggestions about where to begin. Thank you!!

Thank you to Lynn Givens for sharing this post from Decoding Dyslexia-MA.
We must stop the wait and see culture that prevents early intervention.

Keep it up, all you darn dyslexia parents!
All too often the school administration appears to protect school resources over the actual school children during IEP meetings. Parents must persist in making sure our child’s needs are front and center in every decision about services and only evidence based interventions are provided.
