Finally, some research data to prove what we've known for a good while. There is a negative correlation between low overhead and efficiency in the nonprofit sector. In other words, low overhead ratio (expenses for admin + fundraising compared to program services) is a good predictor of less efficiency and therefore less productivity.

Focus on overhead has been a significant thorn in the side of the nonprofit sector for more than a generation. Pressure to reduce expenditures has left nonprofits frustrated and discouraged.

Around this time every year, an unfortunate ritual occurs in the nonprofit sector. Countless charities file Form 8868 to extend the time they may take
