The University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) is a senior institution in the University of South Carolina system. Located on the coast, USCB responds to regional needs, draws upon regional strengths and prepares graduates to contribute locally, nationally and internationally with its mission of teaching, research and service. USCB offers small classes and personalized instruction in 54 areas of study including 20 bachelor’s degree and two master’s degree programs. in Literacy. Associate’s degrees and 100 percent online degrees are also offered. USCB specializes in experiential learning, with students participating in internships, community service projects, international programs, fieldwork and research. The Beaufort College Honors program is open to qualified students of all majors and has specific cohorts in Biology and Nursing. Students from 31 states and 19 countries live in apartment-style residences on the Beaufort and Bluffton campuses. USCB’s world-renowned Hospitality Management program is based on Hilton Head Island. The Sand Sharks compete in 13 men’s and women’s sports — baseball, basketball, softball, women’s soccer, golf, cross country, indoor/outdoor track and field — in the NCAA Division II Peach Belt Conference. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at USCB offers stimulating intellectual and social programs for older adults.

Alcohol education can be fun — we promise! 😂

USCB Athletics brought "Shot of Reality" to campus to help students learn about alcohol safety through an interactive program performed by two professional comedians.

They use humor, research findings and real-life scenarios to explore how alcohol affects the brain and body, how drinking impacts decision-making, and how to recognize and respond to alcohol poisoning.

Through skits, students explored the realities of binge drinking, drunk driving, and peer pressure — including how to look out for a friend who might be impaired.

🐬A new arrival made a splash in the May River!

Every month, a team from Dr. Eric Montie’s Marine Sensory and Neurobiology Lab at USCB conducts a dolphin survey in the May River. They have been studying Bluffton’s resident and migrant tamanend bottlenose dolphin populations for years.

September’s survey noted 36 individuals, including one neonate.

Graduate student Jessica Miller and Research Technician/ Lab Manager Alyssa Marian took photos which they use use to record how the dolphins use the May River over time.

This fieldwork took place Sept. 16, 2026 under NMFS Permit #29625.

🇺🇸 Meet Andrew Newby, USCB’s first Director of Veteran & Military Affairs.

He is committed to making sure military-connected students feel seen, supported and empowered to succeed.

With more than a decade of experience supporting veterans and military-connected students at universities across the South, Andrew is an Emmy Award-winning George W. Bush Institute Scholar who brings personal experience to his new role.

After leaving the Marine Corps, he used his G.I. Bill to earn two degrees and then built a career helping veterans navigate higher education.

"If you've ever had to write your blood type on your clothes to go to work in the morning, you shouldn't have to wonder where you can go on this campus to get the help you need,” he said.

💙 USCB alumni use their degrees in creative ways!

Lincoln Jolly (Studio Art, ‘15), an Army veteran, has written and illustrated a children’s book entitled “DJ WHOOP- Marsh Life,” available on Amazon, Apple, and Barnes and Noble.
