🇰🇷 Cultural connections were at the heart of this year’s USCB study abroad to South Korea.
Traliya Mitchell, who begins her Peace Corps service later this summer, met former Peace Corps volunteer Joshua Lustig, now a U.S. Exchange Diplomat with South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Their conversation highlighted the value the U.S. Department of State places on global service and cross-cultural experience.
💙 For Alexys Sambroak, a Korean American student returning to South Korea for the first time since she was seven years old, the journey was especially meaningful. Her experience was enriched through discussions with Adam Hennings, a U.S. Embassy Public Diplomacy Officer, about the role of public diplomacy in Korea.
McKinley Rogers gained valuable cultural and historical insights from Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Hyungwon Kang, whose perspectives on modern Korea brought lessons from Dr. Babet Alvarez's Global Studies B398 Maymester course to life.
✈️ As the USCB group wraps up their time in Korea, they're reflecting on these connections and the power of global engagement.

📖 Bluffton's history began in the 1700s, and for more than 100 years, cooling breezes from the May River made it a desirable place for wealthy planters to build summer homes.
USCB's Sarah Beachkofsky and Trey Ramsey presented history, ecology and census data to participants in their Bluffton Ambassador course today. All the new "ambassadors" went home with local knowledge and a pin!
