While the members of parliament are preparing to resume parliament tomorrow for the Vote of No Confidence, Police in Port Moresby are also prepared to beef up security around the city.
Metropolitan Superintendent for NCD, Silva Sika said this is to deter any disruptions of the parliamentary processes that will be conducted tomorrow.
Sika has assured the general public that police will be on high alert tomorrow to ensure everyone’s safety.
The superintendent gave this assurance amidst the widespread speculations regarding the looming Vote of No Confidence.
He told NBC News all zone commanders met today and have received their orders of operation, ready to execute tomorrow.
Sika is calling on citizens to leave this parliamentary process to the elected leaders and refrain from interfering in any way.
Businesses and schools and the general public are encouraged to carry on normal business but remain vigilant and take heed of their own safety.
Additionally, everyone is urged to respect the rule of law.
Meantime, Schools in the National Capital District will continue with normal classes tomorrow, despite the scheduled vote of no confidence set to take place when Parliament convenes.
Education Secretary Dr. Uke Kombra confirmed this in response to public concerns that the proceedings might disrupt school operations.
As is customary during a VONC, a heightened police presence is expected throughout the city to ensure peace and order are maintained while the government carries out its business.
