BLUE WEEK - DAY 3 - SOL
GRADUANDS from the University of Papua New Guinea School of Law marked a significant milestone today by becoming the first lawyers to graduate in the post-50-year era of PNG’s independence.
The ceremony, held at the university’s main campus, formed part of a week-long graduation program that has brought together students, families, and academic staff to celebrate years of hard work and academic achievement. Today’s event specifically honoured students from the School of Law, as the graduation entered its third day.
195 graduands proudly walked across the stage to receive their degrees, cheered on by family members and friends who filled the venue.
Guest speaker Hubert Namani who is the current President of the PNG Law Society congratulated the UPNG Law School graduands the graduates for making it this far and for being the first graduating lawyers of PNG’s post-50-year era.
“This is not merely a milestone but a responsibility,” said Mr. Namani. Among the graduates were also members of the PNGDF, RPNGC and St. John’s who graduated with flying colours.
The 71st graduation ceremony continues throughout the week, with different schools graduating on separate days.
The event remains one of the most important dates on the university’s calendar, celebrating academic excellence and the development of future leaders in Papua New Guinea.
Throughout the graduation Mr. Namani encouraged the graduands to uphold the rule of law and transparency.
His speech and encouragement are given in a time where PNG is going through a moral decay of the society and corruption has become a norm.
Mr. Namani’s speech is not just a speech but a challenge for the students to uphold justice and do what is right.
Keeping the rule of law and upholding justice and transparency is what the theme of the UPNG 71st Graduation;’ Reset UPNG@60: Empowering Quality Graduates for Stronger PNG’ is all about.
As the School of Law graduands leave campus as qualified professionals, they carry with them not only their degrees but also the responsibility to serve and uphold the rule of law in the country.
God Speed Litigators.

BLUE WEEK - DAY 1 - SNPS
THE University of Papua New Guinea today graduated students from the School of Natural and Physical Sciences as part of its 71st Graduation Ceremony under the theme of ‘Reset UPNG @ 60: Empowering Quality Graduates for a stronger PNG’.
This ceremony was attended by the UPNG Vice-Chancellor Ian Findlay and the main guest speaker Honourable Kinoka Hotune Feo, Minister for Higher Education, Research, Science & Technology and Sports and the Member for Unggai Bena Openand other important figures in the school administration and government departments.
The graduation ceremony was held at the Sir John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex where 187 students graduated in flying colours in Bachelor Science and Bachelor of Sustainable Development programs.
Vice-Chancellor Ian Findlay congratulated the graduands and was very proud of their achievements.
“The future of Papua New Guinea is in your hands, rise to this challenge together with courage and hope,” he said.
This graduation ceremony was attended by 900 plus parents, guardians, relatives, family members and friends of the graduands.
Some flew in from outside provinces to attend their children’s graduation and almost 400 plus were granted access into the indoor complex to witness the ceremony while the rest remained outside.
Minister Kinoka Hotune Feo stressed about the lazy ‘mindsetproblem’ and procrastinating attitude of the Papua New Guinean working class and encouraged the graduands to change and come out of this negative attitude for the betterment of PNG to move forward.
“We have a mindset problem, I believe Papua New Guinea’s future of being prosperous will only be addressed if we fix the mindset problem,” said Minister Kinoka Hotune Feo.
For each of the 5 divisions of SNPS, each division recognized each of their top students and awarded them divisional awards.
Among the recipients was Miss Eleonorah Samson who graduated in Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and Geography and was a student who came in through the External mode of study and then into the Internal.
“I eventually graduated after all the hard work and it was like so encouraging to others that giving up is not an option because science is not an easy course to take,” she said.
As an awardee of Environmental Science, Miss Samson plans to go back to her home province in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville and do awareness to her people to live a sustainable life and conserve their environment and sea because most of them depend on their land and sea.
The 2026 UPNG SRC Wishes all Graduands from the SCHOOL OF NATURAL AND PHYSICAL SCIENCES the best of luck in their new careers.
May you contribute to the development of this Nation's Science and Technological Capacities.
