EducationUSA is a U.S. Department of State network of advising centers that provides free, accurate, and comprehensive information about opportunities to study at accredited colleges and universities in the United States. Through its five-step advising process, EducationUSA supports students in researching options, financing their studies, completing applications, obtaining a student visa, and preparing for departure. The program aims to promote mutual understanding and strengthen educational and cultural ties between the United States and countries around the world. For more information, visit the website https://educationusa.state.gov/

Last week, as part of efforts to strengthen EducationUSA outreach in Papua New Guinea, U.S. Embassy Port Moresby EducationUSA Advisor Matilda Kapipi visited Lae and Goroka from July 21 to 22, delivering information sessions to more than 400 students and faculty. At the University of Technology in Lae, she engaged with tertiary students and academic staff on U.S. study options and provided a walkthrough on how to research opportunities for studying in the United States.
Outreach continued at Wawin National School of Excellence, where over 300 students across all academic strands received an introduction to U.S. higher education and were encouraged to begin Step 1 of the EducationUSA process—researching college options. Importantly, high school counselors at both Wawin and Aiyura were also trained on how to support students with U.S. college applications, empowering them to provide basic advising services year-round.
The outreach concluded at Aiyura National School of Excellence, where 100 students participated in an engaging session on navigating the U.S. college system. These efforts directly support EducationUSA’s mission to increase international student mobility and foster global connections through higher education.
