Cost of living remains high despite GST exemption on basic goods.

During the presentation of the 2025 National Budget, the Government decided to remove goods and services tax on 13 basic goods to ease the cost-of-living burden in the country. The policy was extended to 31 December 2026 during the presentation of the 2026 National Budget. It has been observed, however, that the cost of living remains high in Papua New Guinea (PNG) despite the government intervention.
