We're delighted to announce our significant K100 million investment in the renewal of Pacific Towing (PacTow)'s fleet and the development of Papua New Guinea’s maritime workforce.
As Chris Daniells, Managing Director of Steamships, explains:
“This investment reflects Steamships’ commitment to our vision that we do not just operate here – we invest here – and that PNG deserves high-quality vessels, strong local crews and long-term investment in national maritime capability. PNG's ports, waterways and trade are too important to accept anything less than safe, properly maintained marine assets and absolute operational resilience.”

Steamships Ship Management and Australia Awards PNG Renew Commitment to Women in Maritime
Steamships Ship Management (SSM) is proud to continue creating opportunities for Papua New Guinean women to pursue careers in the maritime industry.
Building on a legacy first established by Pacific Towing in 2018, this partnership with Australia Awards PNG continues to break barriers in a traditionally male-dominated sector by supporting women to gain internationally recognised maritime qualifications and hands-on experience at sea.
Through this initiative, women are being given the opportunity to develop the skills, confidence and experience needed to become the next generation of PNG seafarers.

Madang Colour Run
Steamships is proud to support the Madang Colour Run, an event that brings communities together for a meaningful cause. For 108 years, we have been serving Papua New Guinea—not just through business, but as part of the communities we call home.
On 28 June, our Madang teams joined thousands of participants and proudly sponsored a Colour Station in support of Modilon General Hospital. It was a vibrant day of unity, with colleagues coming together to help raise funds to improve healthcare services in Madang.
Thank you to everyone who participated and volunteered to make the day a success. Steamships remains committed to supporting initiatives that strengthen the communities we call home.

Steamships was proud to attend the launch of the Pacific Australia Skills Papua New Guinea program at Port Moresby Technical College.
A highlight of the visit was engaging with our own employees, including chefs from Pacific Towing and Consort Express Lines, who are actively developing practical, industry-relevant skills through the program.
This initiative reflects the importance of strong private–public partnerships in building a capable, inclusive workforce and creating meaningful career pathways for Papua New Guineans.
