Congratulations 👏🎉

AT 16, Junior Pyakara, walked into the Papua New Guinea University of Technology (Unitech) as one of the youngest mining engineering students on campus and four years later, at 20, he walked out with a degree.

Pyakara graduated last Thursday at the Unitech’s Taraka Campus in Lae, Morobe, with a bachelor’s degree in mining engineering among the other 800-plus graduates.

He is currently attached with New Porgera Limited’s underground mine and working with production drilling and blasting section.

We are pleased to share the notice below, which contains information about PNGUoT’s 58th Graduation Ceremony, to be held over two days on Thursday, 16th and Friday, 17th April 2026, at the university’s Taraka Campus in Lae, Morobe Province.

Those intending to graduate must complete and submit their Application to Graduate by Friday, 3rd April and complete the Graduate Survey before collecting their gowns on the dates provided in the notice.

Unitech Students complete 12-week training with MRDC

TWO final year mining engineering students have completed their 12 weeks of industrial training with the Mineral Resources Development Company (MRDC).

Working with MRDC’s Technical Division, Agaigi Tavake and Frank Veapi, have completed their final requirement to Graduate in on the 17th of April 2026, with a Bachelor in Mining Engineering (Honours) at University of Technology (UOT) in Lae, Morobe.
