On the 11th of August 2026, the School of Mining and Mineral Processing Engineering at the PNG University of Technology hosted the official launching of the newly established School of Petroleum Engineering—a landmark occasion that drew delegates from organizations across the country. The historic unveiling ceremony took place at the Moseley Moramoro Building, with the honour of officially launching the school performed by none other than the Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea, James Marape, in the presence of distinguished guests, industry leaders, and academic staff.
This milestone marks the beginning of a transformative journey for petroleum education in the region. As part of the university's commitment to world-class training, new learning infrastructures are scheduled to commence construction in 2027, paving the way for cutting-edge teaching and research facilities. The first cohort of students is expected to enter in 2028, making this the very first petroleum engineering program of its kind not only in Papua New Guinea but across the entire Pacific region.
The MESA student body took great pride in being actively engaged throughout the planning and ex*****on of the event, taking on delegated tasks that ranged from logistics to protocol coordination. Their dedication and professionalism played a significant role in ensuring the event was a resounding historic success—one that will undoubtedly launch the next generation of Petroleum Engineers and set a new standard for energy education in the Pacific.⛏️🎓🇵🇬
