Having spent a decade in the police force, a mother-of-five policewoman turned her struggles into success when she graduated with a Human Resource management degree yesterday at the Sir John Guise Indoor Complex in Port Moresby.

Constable, Gube Niukama stood tall at the University of Papua New Guinea's 70th graduation, a symbol of resilience and the extraordinary strength found in familial bonds.

The mother proudly accepted 'bamboo,' a culmination of years of dedication both on the beat and in the books, her journey echoing a powerful truth:

"Unity within a family can conquer all."

Speaking exclusively with the PNG SUN amidst the graduation celebration, Ms. Niukama emphasized the bedrock of her achievement.

"My successful achievement of the BHRM highlights the significance of unity in my family," she stated, her voice filled with emotion.

This academic milestone, achieved while serving the community and raising her children, underscores the profound impact of a supportive home front.

Looking forward, Ms. Niukama is eager to apply her newfound knowledge to contribute meaningfully to the Department of Police.

"I believe that this BHRM knowledge will assist me in addressing challenges within the Department of Police," she asserted, emphasizing the transformative power of education within organizations.

"No changes will happen when we talk about improving the organizations until we educate."

Reflecting on the realities of her path, Ms. Niukama offered candid advice to other mothers pursuing their aspirations.

"If you have goals in your life, it is better to have fewer than three children to avoid the challenges I faced as a mother of five returning to study," she shared openly.

Overwhelmed with gratitude, Ms. Niukama first acknowledged the unwavering grace of God in her career and her pursuit of education while balancing her responsibilities as a mother.

She then lovingly credited her academic success to her husband, Dr. Yule Aina, a dedicated senior medical officer in Kuinga, West Province.

Dr. Aina, who himself graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2022 and subsequently earned his master's degree, demonstrated exceptional support by fully embracing his role at home, including arranging childcare for their five children throughout his wife's four years of study.

Ms. Niukama also expressed deep appreciation for her mother, whose consistent childcare assistance proved invaluable.

Dr. Aina, who traveled from Kuinga to witness his wife's graduation, echoed the sentiment of familial unity.

"As a father, I fully supported my wife in pursuing this Bachelor," he proudly told the PNG SUN, drawing from his own educational experience.

"I assisted as best as I could because I have been through the journey of education, and I know how the system works for students."
With her bachelor's degree now in hand, Ms. Niukama is already setting her sights on future academic endeavors.

"This achievement is a step towards achieving a master's degree, as it is my plan for the near future," she revealed.

Acknowledging the ongoing demands of raising a large family, she concluded with an inspiring message of perseverance:

"As a mother of five children, I faced continuous daily challenges, but through careful planning, I overcame them, and today, I am celebrating this achievement."

Gube Niukama's inspiring journey stands as a powerful testament to the strength of family unity and the unwavering pursuit of personal and professional growth.
