Great session with John Carney from Dublin in the Snooker & Billiards Ireland HQ in Carlow today ahead of the European Snooker Championships in Bulgaria next week.
I worked on his Techniques and Break Building skills. We developed a training program to practice.

SBI hold International Camp with PJ
Snooker & Billiards Ireland held their final International Snooker Camp for our players playing in the 2026 European Championships in Bulgaria on Sunday 30th August. This National training day was held from 11am-4pm in the Academy in Carlow.
SBI Camps allow our players train in a camp with our National Coach PJ Nolan who is also a WPBSA Coach and Head of Coaching in the European Billiards & Snooker Association. All our SBI players below were invited to atttend plus all current SBI Qualified Coaches who are Garda vetted are also invited to attend the day to assist the training day.

James Wins SBI 16’s Event 1
On Saturday the 29th of August the first SBI ranking event of the season was held with the SBI 16’s Ranking Event 1 ‘’ Irish Masters Cup ‘’ in the SBI HQ in Carlow. The TD is PJ Nolan, and the referees were Daniel Keenan and Conor Doyle.

James Stewart O Reilly from Dublin won the event to start the season with a bang and lifted the Irish Masters Cup in style beating Joe Shannon from Longford in a high-quality final which was refereed by Daniel Keenan who was officiating in his first ranking final. James went 2-0 up only to see the current 16’s and 21’s National Champion come back to win the next 2 frames before james won the decider to win the title.

This Weekend sees the first SBI ranking event of the season with the SBI ‘’ Irish Masters Cup ‘’ 16’s Ranking Event 1 in the SBI HQ in Carlow. The TD is PJ Nolan and referee is Daniel Keenan.
Joe Shannon is number 1 seed while James Stewart O Reilly is Number 2 seed for the event.
SBI Chairman John Tobin was on hand to wish all the players good luck in the event.
It promises to be another exciting weekend with so many talented players looking to qualify for the 2026 Celtic Challenge plus Home Internationals + World & European Championships.
The Bad weather is currently knocking out our streaming and live scoring, but we are working on fixing the issue.

Intro Level Coaching Course – 10th October
Snooker & Billiards Ireland will be holding a Intro Level Coaching Ireland Coaching Course in the SBI HQ in Carlow on Saturday the 10th of October. The course will start at 10am and finish at 6pm on the day.

The Course will be given by National Coach PJ Nolan (Role of Coaches + Playing Techniques) and Neil Shanahan (Rules of the Game)

This is a one-day course is for members who want to start coaching within their own club. The course covers the basics in coaching players to start training snooker players.

Snooker & Billiards Ireland will be holding a Intro Level Coaching Ireland Coaching Course in the SBI HQ in Carlow on Saturday the 10th of October. The course will start at 10am and finish at 6pm on the day. The Course will be given by National Coach PJ Nolan (Role of Coaches + Playing Techniques)

2026 European Week of Sport – Play Snooker
As part of the 2026 European Week of Sport. Snooker & Billiards Ireland will hold free Snooker & Billiards Developmental Days on Thursday 24th and Friday 25th of September from 12 noon-4pm in the SBI HQ Academy of Excellence in Carlow.
SBI will hold the Developmental days to introduce and encourage more to play our beautiful sports. National Coach PJ Nolan and fellow SBI Coaches will attended to assist the players in learning the skills of the game.
