Carlow College, St Patrick’s is delighted to welcome the Walsh University Blouin Scholars back to campus once again.
Now in its fourth year, this valued partnership supports the exchange of faculty, students, ideas and experiences between our institutions.
This year, a group of 10 fourth-year students, accompanied by two faculty members, are spending the next few weeks in Carlow.
Their visit began with a roundtable discussion with local secondary educators, exploring the pathway from secondary school to college or career, career readiness, and ways to support long-lasting, positive student outcomes.
The group then joined our US Summer Abroad students for a cultural excursion to St Mullins and Graiguenamanagh; a wonderful opportunity to experience some of the history, heritage and beauty of the area.

World Environment Day 🌍
At Carlow College our Sustainability Group have introduced many initiatives to protect and enhance our environment.
From No Mow May, pollinator planting, composting, insect houses and swift nesting boxes, to energy-efficient boilers, double glazing, sensor lighting and water-saving upgrades, our campus-wide actions are helping to support biodiversity, reduce waste and lower our environmental impact.
This World Environment Day, we celebrate the small, meaningful changes that help create a more sustainable and ecologically vibrant environment for everyone.

We at Carlow College, St. Patrick’s are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dermot Mulligan, Curator of Carlow County Museum.
Dermot made an extraordinary contribution to the understanding and appreciation of local history, bringing Carlow’s rich heritage to life for generations of visitors. He was especially generous in his engagement with our College community, always welcoming our students and study abroad groups with warmth, enthusiasm, and an infectious passion for storytelling.
Through his work, many of our students gained a deeper connection to place, history, and culture - experiences that will continue to shape their learning long into the future.
We extend our sincere sympathy to Dermot’s family, friends, and colleagues at Carlow County Museum.
Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
As a mark of respect to our much loved and recently deceased colleague, Dermot Mulligan, the County Museum will remain closed at this time.

Patrick Folan, a graduate of our MA in Irish Regional History
"I would highly recommend the MA in Irish Regional History at Carlow College. I work in IT in Banking and the Masters was a brilliant reintroduction to academia and to the study of History. I have always had a deep interest in history, and the course taught me how to study and research history, how to identify and interrogate primary and secondary sources, and how to present and share the outcome of the research.
The class sizes were small and we built up a great class rapport, and we also had access to a great team of lecturers who were all professional historians and were experts in their fields, and they shared their passion for history with us.
I live in South Dublin and the one evening class a week onsite was easily accessible as it was only an hour’s drive to the campus.
I thoroughly enjoyed the course, if you are looking for a part time Masters in History then this is the course you should choose!"
