A good demonstration of the unpredictability of trees in high winds following the recent storms.
This willow snapped off which is really unusual as they usually just blow over in this woodland.
Couldn't see any obvious faults so have to assume that it was caused by the sail effect from the larger and taller canopy when compared to the birch.

Was invited back to construct a second willow tunnel to complement one we made in 2018. We think they both look great and it will be great to see them growing in spring.

Managed to get out our woodland site and a couple of weeks ago and tackle some of last year's bramble. Fortunately I had an assistant to do some of the hard work. Hoping to be back there soon with some groups!

After a significant break over lockdown we managed to finish the training days for our Level 3 Forest School Leader Course.
We had an interesting mix of weather with one of the wettest days being when everyone was cooking!
No dates for the next course yet but there will hopefully be a Forest School First Aid course coming up in February. More details to follow.

It's been a long time since our last post. As with many providers lockdown stopped all sessions but there are now signs that we may be able to start up again soon.
So, made a visit to our woodland which is looking very overgrown after three months of being left alone. Hoping to get people back here soon, although there is a fair amount of bramble to cut back first...

Although we are all about outdoor learning, not everyone has access to outside space at the moment, which was reinforced at my last job in a school last week. We were making bird boxes and a number of the children lived in flats so could only see the birds we were talking about from their widows at home.
So, bearing this in mind, we will be posting ideas that work in the garden if you have one, or indoors if not.
Challenge course. This one came about a few weeks ago as the Forest School area was flooded so we moved to the school trim trail.
The children had ropes, poles and a few tarps. The aim was to complete the trail without touching the added equipment. Most of the fun was in the design and construction.
To bring it indoors then if you don't have access to ropes, then string or scarves tied together across chairs could work. Please do supervise closely to avoid anything valuable being damaged or any entanglement in whatever you might use.
Good luck!
