Taekwondo, Kickboxing and Junior sessions for all ages and abilities.

The physical habits developed in our sessions carry over directly into daily life away from the club. Traditional Tae Kwon Do stances and modern Kickboxing footwork emphasise posture, core stability, and balance.

As adults, it is incredibly easy to lose this natural agility through prolonged sitting at a desk, long commutes, or repetitive daily routines.

Spending an hour training these foundational movements actively improves your spatial awareness and reaction times. It simply means you are less likely to stumble over an uneven curb, experience fewer nagging posture aches, and move with greater ease throughout the week.

⏰ Tonight's adult schedule at King Edward's: join us in the sports hall for traditional Tae Kwon Do at 7:00 PM or modern Kickboxing at 8:00 PM.

⭐️ Your first session is completely FEE to try out and see how much you enjoy it. If you decide to keep coming, it is a straightforward monthly payment with zero long-term contract commitments or tie-ins.

When people think of a martial arts club, film and television often portray them as dark, intense, and uninviting places. It is easy to assume you will be walking into an intimidating environment full of people trying to prove a point, which causes many people to hesitate before ever trying a class.

Our reality in Lichfield is completely different:

👉 We train in the main sports hall at King Edward VI Leisure Centre. It is a bright, clean, well-ventilated public space used by everyday members of the Lichfield community.

👉 You definitely won’t find a loud, aggressive or unwelcoming atmosphere here. In fact, it's the opposite! The environment is respectful, structured, and designed for safe, enjoyable learning & skill development.

👉 Our focus is on technical development, foundational techniques, and proper pad work to develop techniques, making it an approachable setting for any adult beginner.

Come and see for yourself! You can find us in the King Edward's sports hall on Wednesdays (7:00 PM Tae Kwon Do / 8:00 PM Kickboxing) and Fridays at 6:45 PM.

Your first visit is a completely free taster session to see how you like the environment, and if you choose to stay, it is simply a monthly payment with no minimum contract and no tie-ins.

When people think about martial arts, they usually look at the years of training required to achieve a black belt and assume that must be the ultimate mountain to climb.

But in reality, the most difficult belt to get is the very first one. It's the white belt.

Overcoming the initial hesitation and simply walking through the sports hall doors as an adult beginner takes the greatest amount of effort.

It is completely normal to overthink it or feel a bit of social anxiety before your first class. But the moment you step into the group, the natural structure of the session takes over. The mental chatter quietens down as you focus on learning foundational techniques and moving through pad work to develop techniques alongside a lovely group of local people who all started exactly where you are standing.

If you're ready to get that first hurdle out of the way, come down to the sports hall at King Edward VI Leisure Centre. We run adult sessions on Wednesdays (7:00 PM Tae Kwon Do / 8:00 PM Kickboxing) and Fridays at 6:45 PM.

Your first visit is a completely free taster, and if you choose to stay, it’s just a simple monthly payment with no minimum contract and absolutely no tie-ins.

When we think about staying active as adults, the conversation usually revolves around cardio and strength training. While those are important of course, what happens between your ears matters just as much!

Learning traditional Tae Kwon Do patterns and footwork sequences is highly effective for maintaining cognitive sharpness.

Remembering distinct skill combinations, shifting your weight seamlessly, and reacting to a training partner requires focus.

It forces your brain to build new neural pathways, which naturally helps with memory and spatial awareness as you age.

It is an hour of training where you can completely unplug from screens and work devices, actively practicing mental agility alongside physical coordination.

If you fancy trying a workout that challenges your mind as much as your body, come and see how you get on.

We are in the sports hall at King Edward VI Leisure Centre on Wednesdays (7:00 PM and 8:00 PM) and Fridays (6:45 PM). Your first session is a completely free taster session.

Dragging yourself to a standard gym or staring at a treadmill clock after a long, tiring day can quickly start to feel like a chore. It’s no wonder so many of us find it hard to stay motivated when the routine feels repetitive, isolated, and a bit dull.

Martial arts approaches fitness from a completely different angle. Instead of just burning calories for the sake of it, your mind is fully engaged in learning a genuine skill. You are focused on mastering foundational techniques, working through structured skill combinations, and letting off steam with partner pad work to develop techniques. Because you are constantly progressing alongside a friendly, normal group of local people, the hour flies by before you even notice the workout.

Of course, to really get the most out of it and feel comfortable, quality coaching makes ALL the differences. Lichfield Martial Arts is run by Richard Buttery, a former Tae Kwon Do World Champion who has spent over 40 years training everyone from absolute beginners stepping onto the mats for the very first time to championship-winning international competitors.

Richard’s massive wealth of experience means he knows exactly how to adapt the training to suit everyday adult life, ensuring you never feel overwhelmed or out of your depth. Plus, for total peace of mind, our club is fully accredited by BMABA. You are getting safe, expert guidance in a completely down-to-earth, ego-free environment.

It is really common for people to put off starting martial arts because they feel they need to achieve a certain level of fitness or flexibility before they even begin. We hear it all the time - "I just need to get fit first!"

But the truth is, it works entirely the other way around. You don’t need to be in great shape to start; you come to the sessions to let the training do that job for you.

Our classes are explicitly designed to build your stamina, balance, and coordination from whatever your current baseline happens to be. Whether your main exercise right now is walking the dog, or you are simply trying to shake off the stiffness of a long week spent sitting at an office desk, you will fit in just fine.

We break everything down into manageable pieces, focusing on foundational techniques and steady skill development. When we introduce faster-paced skill combinations or use pad work to develop techniques, you go at the speed that works for your body. It's a supportive, normal group of local people all working at their own pace.

Ever fancied trying a martial art, but found yourself stuck choosing between different styles?

Our Wednesday night sessions at King Edward's Leisure Centre in Lichfield, are designed to let you choose exactly how you want to train, making it easy to find a class that fits your own pace and goals. Instead of a one-size-fits-all session, we split the evening to offer two distinct approaches.

At 7:00pm, we start with traditional Tae Kwon Do. This hour is focused on foundational techniques, improving your natural mobility, and understanding core skills, balance, physical awareness. It is a brilliant option if you are looking to dust off the cobwebs after a long day sitting at a desk, work on your coordination, and build a solid movement base.

Then, in the 8:00pm session, the room shifts gears for modern Kickboxing. This is a faster-paced session centred around dynamic skill combinations and partner pad work to develop techniques. We also include elements of light, controlled sparring, making it perfect for anyone looking to clear their head, have a bit of fun, and burn off some mid-week stress.

The best part? You don't have to choose between them. You are very welcome to try either session to see how you enjoy it, or stay on and do both back-to-back. There is absolutely no pressure to be in peak shape or know what you're doing before you walk through the door—it’s just a friendly, normal group of local people learning together.
