Celebrating excellent GCSE results!

Lichfield Cathedral School is celebrating another year of strong GCSE results, with students, staff and parents sharing in the success of a cohort whose hard work and determination have been rewarded. As a non-selective school whose students have a wide range of academic ability, 27% of all grades being 9-7 is an excellent achievement, and 63% of all vocational qualifications were awarded Merit, Distinction or Distinction*.

Headteacher Sue Hannam noted: "For some young people, GCSE Results Day can bring disappointment as well as celebration. At Lichfield Cathedral School, students can join our Sixth Form and begin studying their chosen A Level subjects while simultaneously resitting GCSEs."

The LCS Sixth Form:

- Small tutorial groups
- Dedicated academic mentors
- Personalised support
- Top 10% nationally for value-added

Phenomenal A Level results!

Congratulations to all our students on their amazing A Level and BTec results - 53% of all grades were A* or A and 98% of all grades were A*-C!

As a non-selective school, students join our Sixth Form with a wide range of GCSE grades, so these results clearly demonstrate the value added by being an LCS Sixth Former!

Our students will be progressing to challenging courses at prestigious universities across the UK and beginning amazing degree apprenticeships with highly respected employers such as Airbus.

We are so proud of their hard work and determination in achieving these results, but we are thrilled at the personal development they have embraced, gaining vital life skills, building character and confidence, ensuring they are ready to become future leaders. We look forward to hearing about the next steps in your journey!

LCS is very proud to add a Guinness World Record holder to our ranks. Many congratulations to Henry for now being the record holder for the fastest time to make 3 Japanese Origami Frogs! A fantastic achievement. The school hopes to be making more records as part of our 85th Birthday Celebrations in 2027 so watch this space!

Last weekend, Maisie competed for the Staffordshire Schools Athletics Team at the prestigious English Schools National Championships at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham. These championships have provided a platform for many athletes to go on to become Olympians and provide an opportunity for the best young athletes from across the country to compete. Maisie was competing in the U15 girls pole vault and we are delighted to say that she won silver in a very close contest for the medals. Maisie coped extremely well in the very hot conditions and vaulted brilliantly to secure her place on the podium. Well done, Maisie!'

The LCS World Challenge team have finished their trip with a safari comprised of trips around the Kruger National Park in open air safari trucks including a night safari and a sunset safari. Over the course of 2 days the students saw an incredible amount of animals and wildlife including: lions, elephants, giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, hippos, buffalo, wild dogs, hyenas, vultures, genets, crocodile, wilder beast and a vast array of birds. The landscape was stunning, especially at sunrise and sunset where the team enjoyed the spectacular colour of the low-lying African sun. On day 13, the moment finally came for the LCS team to say goodbye to Kruger National Park and its wonderful wildlife and set off on the long journey to the airport at Johannesburg ready for their flight. On the return journey each student described how they had been impacted by the amazing journey they have been on: the incredible welcome and experience with the community at the initiative; the stunning beauty and challenge of the trek; the wonders of the natural world on safari and the opportunity to be present and away from phones for two weeks. Everyone agreed that their LCS World Challenge trip to Eswatini and Kruger far exceeded their expectations. Thank you to Aiden Burke for leading the team on such an incredible adventure!!

Our choristers had a wonderful time on Sunday celebrating the end of the school year and saying goodbye to friends who are leaving LCS. It was a very full day, with the two services with a family 1980s-themed family picnic in between, and afterwards family and friends gathered at The Palace to say our final farewells to those who are leaving. We wish Choral Scholars Bella, Alice and George every success and happiness as they leave LCS and embark on an exciting new chapter in their lives. We would also like to thank our retiring Head Choristers, Elijah C, Jeremy S and Milly T, along with deputies Austin P and Toby S, for their excellent leadership over the past year. We also said goodbye to Jeremy and wish him very good luck at his new school.
