Are you unsure what type of sleep coach is the right one for your family? I've broken down the difference between the options below 💤👇

👉 Sleep Trainers 👈
These gals use controlled crying or separation based methods like Ferber to help babies settle independently. They're usually faster than a more gentle option but do involve more tears.

👉 Responsive Coaches 👈
This is my camp. We use a range of different approaches and methods depending on a families starting point, goals and how fast they want to achieve those goals. We don't recommend any separation based methods and don't recommend leaving your baby. It may take a little longer to achieve your goals but there are less tears.

👉 Gentle or Holistic Coaches 👈
Similar to responsive coaches but be careful as some sleep trainers will call themselves gentle or holistic when they're actually using sleep training methods. Make sure to check who they trained with and read reviews to clarify.

Some gentle or holistic coaches are more on the side of 'do nothing' or 'go with the flow' and will support you with managing it rather than making changes.

I hope this helps! 🥰

☕ ready for a hot cuppa? ☕

This is a great way to lengthen your baby's naps 👇

Is your baby napping for 30 minutes or less for every nap?

Firstly, short naps are absolutely fine. There is nothing wrong if your baby is having ‘cat naps’ and you’re happy with their nights. Some babies prefer shorter naps during the day.

But if you don’t think the nights are good and your baby could benefit from longer naps, here’s what to do...

👉 Your baby could be telling you it’s time to drop a nap. Fighting naps or sleeping less than expected for naps are tell tale signs that your baby doesn’t need as much day sleep any more.

This is also normal - babies sleep needs naturally reduce as they get older.

If you think this is the case...drop the nap they were fighting or sleeping less than expected for and shift the other nap times. i.e. if your baby was having three naps at 9am, 1pm and 4pm shift this to two naps at 10am and 2pm.

It will take a week or so to adjust fully but you will find your baby sleeps longer because they’re much more ready for sleep.

👉 Or explore the possibility that your baby hasn’t had enough time awake and they are ready to be awake for longer between naps.

So, stretch the time they are awake for before the usual 30m nap i.e. if you put them down at 10am, try 10.30am instead.

👉 Finally, if those options don’t have any effect, it’s time to accept the short nap.

Their sleep will evolve and change over time so this could just be what they fancy for now. You’ve not done anything wrong!
