This week's Music Box Session features The World Before with their original song '_Shame_'. The World before is made up of current HND student Joan on keys with EC Music graduates Mateo and Michael on bass and guitar, as well as Xabier on drums and frontwoman Rue on vocals and who also wrote the song's lyrics. Rue says “_Shame_ is a song that emerged out of a previous original called _Just A Little Bit_. We liked the overall structure and some parts of the melody, but something about how the song came together during live performances felt disjointed.

We started by doubling the amount of time spent on each chord in the verse, resulting in the fitting suspension heard in the verses. The lyrics, penned by frontwoman Rue, are written from the perspective of her father. The first verse details Rue’s view on how she feels her dad related to his own father, and the second verse expands on how that father-son dynamic affects his current bond with her.

_Shame_ is a song about the generational cycles that influence who we are, and speaks to the overwhelming pressure that can exist within family relationships.

_Shame_ will be released as a full single later this summer. Keep up with The World Before The World Before
