A current research project on developing an Arts Management Union: Please do complete the survey!

https://app.onlinesurveys.jisc.ac.uk/s/qmu/1

The research topic is labour, workplace, and interpersonal issues that face arts managers and arts workers. The topic should be researched to expand on the academic literature that has detected a bullying crisis in the arts, cultural and creative sectors. The arts sector also suffers from precarious work, unsafe conditions, low wages, and other labour issues. Although these issues are common in many sectors, they can be quite extreme within the arts, as shown in the relevant academic literature. The lack of unions for arts managers/workers may exacerbate the issues. The nature of labour issues in the arts can be idiosyncratic, and an organization specifically focused on it and prepared to address the problems in tailored ways would benefit the industry. The precariousness of arts work and arts organizations does not look to be improving any time soon and will likely worsen due to global trends. An international alliance of arts management professionals and workers may be necessary to save the sector or at least keep it afloat. With arts management professionals quitting or leaving the sector at a seemingly heightened rate, a union may also be necessary to improve working conditions to retain staff.

The principal aim for the study is to test the feasibility of creating a union that represents arts managers and arts workers.
