Could your psychotherapy expertise help strengthen therapeutic practice at Harmeny?

We are looking for two experienced Psychotherapy Consultants to create psychologically safe spaces where our care, education and support teams can reflect on their work with children and young people.

You will bring a compassionate, relational approach, experience of organisational consultation and reflective practice, and a strong understanding of early years trauma and adversity.

Hours: Up to three days (21 hours) per week per consultant
Rate: £250 per day
Location: Balerno, Edinburgh

Team Caroline is preparing for their challenge this Saturday! 🎉

A team of fun-loving daredevils from one of our residential cottages, will put their strength and wits to the test as they take on a huge 5K inflatable obstacle course all in support of Harmeny’s Play Appeal! 🤸‍♂️

Their fundraising will help create a new games room and provide gym equipment, giving the children and young people who live at Harmeny more opportunities to play, stay active, spend time together and build confidence.

What an achievement! 🎓👏

Congratulations to all the young people who celebrated their exam results last week.

We are incredibly proud of our four S4 learners, who achieved 23 qualifications at National 3 and National 4 level between them. As the first-ever cohort of S4 students at Harmeny School, they have impressed us so much with their effort, resilience and engagement with their learning.💚

But their learning journey doesn’t stop here!

Building on the part-time college courses they accessed during S4, three young people are now starting college placements, two full-time and one part-time.

All of this has been made possible by the development of our Learning Hub and the expansion of our secondary curriculum in 2023. This means we can continue to be by our young people’s side as they navigate these important school years and gain skills and qualifications for life and work.✨

A huge thank you to our team and college partners for working collaboratively to support our young people to achieve their goals.

Most importantly, congratulations to the young people themselves for their hard work and resilience! 🌟

We were delighted to update Dr Scott Arthur MP today on our plans to develop our services and create high-quality spaces for our young people to grow and reach their potential.

Gavin Calder, Chief Executive, and Mandy Shiel, Head of Education, also showed Dr Scott Arthur around our much-loved adventure playground "The Venchie” which has provided children with many hours of play for more than 30 years. As you can see, Scott couldn't resist having a go himself!

The Venchie will be getting revamp this autumn thanks to the generous donations of our supporters as part of our Play Appeal, which is helping raise funds to develop a variety of play and social spaces across our estate.

🛝The Venchie is set to begin an exciting new chapter!

Our much-loved adventure playground has been part of Harmeny life for more than 30 years but is now reaching the end of its functional life. To help raise the funds to revitalise this important space we launched our Play Appeal in March and, thanks to the support of donors so far, we’ve been able to appoint a team from CAP.CO - Creating Adventurous Places Ltd. to help bring the project to life!

CAP.CO have been working closely with our young people and colleagues to create an exciting new design, with their ideas shaping how the space will look, feel and be used.

Together we can ensure that The Venchie continues to support therapeutic play, connection, activity and calm for years to come.

☀️ We’ve been making the most of every sunny day, enjoying our gardens and play areas with bikes, inflatable pools and plenty of laughter along the way.

Another lovely summer activity has been starting to pick strawberries from our much-loved Community Garden. 🍓 They may be wonderfully wonky, but every single one is delicious!
Sorry, squirrels... you’ve had your turn. This year’s harvest is staying with us. 🐿️😄

Have you heard about Here4U at Harmeny? We’re recruiting for a Project Coordinator to help develop this important service. 💚

Here4U supports young people during their time at Harmeny and after they leave, helping them stay connected, access guidance and move forward into life beyond Harmeny.

This role will involve supporting transitions, maintaining relationships with former pupils, coordinating opportunities for connection, and helping us understand the lasting impact of Harmeny’s work.

If you have experience in residential childcare, youth work, advocacy, throughcare or aftercare, we’d love to hear from you.
