🐘💜 A week of learning with SIMOA & SHANARRI! 💜🐘
This week our Explorers have been busy taking part in lots of fun and meaningful experiences involving SIMOA the Elephant and SHANARRI! 🌟
Through stories, discussions, play and hands-on activities, the children have been exploring safety, wellbeing, feelings, relationships and how we can look after ourselves and others. 🥰
SIMOA has been helping us to think about staying safe, spotting risks and making safe choices, while SHANARRI has supported our conversations around what helps us to feel Safe, Healthy, Achieving, Nurtured, Active, Respected, Responsible and Included. 🌈
We have loved seeing our Explorers share their ideas, ask questions and learn together! 💕🐘

🌿✨ Weekly Outdoor Learning at Nursery! ✨🌿

We’re delighted to have introduced weekly outdoor learning planning across all rooms in our nursery! Our outdoor spaces provide children with endless opportunities to explore, investigate, experiment and learn through play. 🌳🐛🌸

Our activities are carefully planned around the children’s interests, fascinations and ideas, helping us to build on what they already know and encouraging them to become confident, curious learners.

Children may be exploring nature, hunting for minibeasts, creating with natural materials, developing their physical skills, investigating water and mud, getting creative, or simply enjoying imaginative adventures with their friends. 🪵🪲💦🎨

Our practitioners observe the children closely and use their interests to inspire new experiences and extend their learning. We encourage children to ask questions, make choices, solve problems and discover things for themselves.

Outdoor learning also supports so many areas of development, including communication and language, physical development, personal and social skills, early maths, understanding the world and creativity. 🌱

Most importantly, we want our children to have fun, feel a sense of wonder and develop a real love of learning and exploring the world around them. 💚

We can’t wait to see what adventures and discoveries each week brings! 🌈🌿

🧚✨ Fairy Magic at Nursery! ✨🧚
We’ve had a wonderfully magical morning at nursery today, busy creating our very own fairy houses! 🏡🍄🌿
This afternoon, some of our children took a little adventure to Mordun Woods, where they carefully placed their creations for everyone to discover. 🧚‍♀️🌳 Keep your eyes peeled if you’re out exploring you never know where a fairy house might be hiding! 👀✨
Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be adding even more fairy houses to the woods, and we’d LOVE for our families and the local community to join in too! 💚
Why not make your own fairy house and add it to the collection? Use natural materials, get creative and see what magical home you can make. 🍂🪵🌸
📸 We would absolutely love to see your creations, so please share your photos with us!
Let’s fill Mordun Woods with a little bit of fairy magic! 🧚‍♂️✨🌿

Helping young children make and prepare their own snacks has a surprising number of developmental benefits. It’s not just about food—it supports independence, learning, and confidence in a very hands-on way.
Independence and confidence
When children take part in preparing their own snacks, they begin to feel capable and trusted. Simple tasks like spreading butter, peeling fruit, or pouring drinks build a sense of achievement and self-reliance.
Fine motor skills
Activities such as cutting soft foods, stirring, or opening containers strengthen hand muscles and coordination. These skills are essential for early writing and everyday tasks.
Understanding healthy eating
By engaging directly with ingredients, children become more familiar with different foods. This can encourage healthier choices and reduce picky eating, as they’re more likely to try something they’ve helped prepare.
Language development
Snack preparation creates natural opportunities for conversation—naming foods, describing textures, following instructions, and learning new vocabulary.
Early maths and problem-solving
Children practice counting pieces of fruit, measuring ingredients, or dividing portions. These everyday experiences support early numeracy and logical thinking.
Responsibility and routine
Preparing snacks teaches children about hygiene (like washing hands), tidying up, and following steps in a sequence—important life skills and part of developing responsibility.
Social skills
If done in a group setting, children learn to share, take turns, and cooperate with others.
