Connect's new parent/carer survey on Mobile Phones in Schools and More is out now!
Parents and carers - please take part! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RWNGXQ7

We're asking about mobile phone use in schools, social media, educational technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) use in schools.

Your response will help to shape Connect’s submission to the Scottish Government’s recently-launched consultation on restricting mobile phones in schools as well as ensuring parent and carer voices are heard in future national conversations about children and young people’s online lives and online learning.

The survey closes on 5 October 2026.

Our new investigation has found that children in Scotland are being subjected to police use of force without proper recording and monitoring.

We reviewed how often Police Scotland used force against children, including Tasers, incapacitating spray, spit hoods, bite guards, strip searches and ā€œempty handā€ techniques such as punches and kicks.

Vital aspects of the data were missing. Without accurate data, we can’t fully understand what is happening, learn from incidents or identify whether some groups of children are being disproportionately affected. Proper recording is a critical part of human rights monitoring.

The Commissioner has made 21 recommendations for Police Scotland, the Scottish Police Authority (SPA), the Police Investigations & Review Commissioner (PIRC) and The Scottish Government to ensure children’s rights are protected, respected and fulfilled.

She is calling for the immediate end to the use of Tasers and PAVA (incapacitating spray) on children in custody settings, alongside further action by Police Scotland to restrict the use of both on children.

Are you a parent or carer of a neurodivergent child/young person?

Mindroom , The University of Edinburgh and NHS Lothian have partnered on a project to improve access to support for neurodivergent children and young people (including those on assessment waiting lists). As part of this, they are gathering information about support that is currently available. They would love your help!

Please share a support that’s helped your child/family - maybe a sleep app, a neurodiversity podcast, or a group to help anxiety. Sharing a support only takes a few minutes and will help improve what’s available for others.

Tell them about it here: https://edin.ac/4q9cFS2
