Active Kids Day Nurseries

Active Kids Day Nurseries For quality childcare in a loving attentive environment – think Active Kids. The Rocking Horse Nursery is located in Duddingston, Edinburgh.

The centre opened in 1990 and joined partnership with Edinburgh City Council in 1992. The centre is a low-rise building which has the benefit of an enclosed garden, play area and a large spacious kitchen area which is used to provide homemade cooked lunches for the children. Active Kids at the Rocking Horse is a small and welcoming nursery which is divided into four playrooms to accommodate children between 0-5 years and is registered to accommodate 29 children. Our centre operates a 1:3 staff ratio for children aged 0-2 years, 1:5 for children aged 2-3 years and 1:8 for children aged 3-5 years.

For National Teddy Bear Day, Investigators have been out on a Teddy Bear’s Picnic this morning and enjoyed packed lunches together. The teddies and children also played at the park together. This afternoon we are doing some fun themed teddy bear activities 🧸🛝🥪🐻

Following on from our scavenger hunt yesterday morning, we spent our afternoon baking apple crumble together with the Figgate Park apples we collected. The children listened carefully to the instructions given and together, with SIMOA’s safety advice we cut the apples and mixed our crumble mix. This was a delicious treat for afternoon snack 🍎🍂

This morning, Investigators worked together on a nature scavenger hunt. During the walk, we were focusing on all of our senses, looking out for what we could see, what we could hear, anything we might be able to taste, smell and touch too. We noted these down together. Some of our most exciting finds were robins singing, the wind in the trees, apples and berries on the trees and wet leaves on the ground 🍂🍎🌳

Safety first with our special friend, SIMOA the Elephant! 🐘💜

SIMOA has been joining us on our walks to help remind everyone about staying safe when we're out and about. The children have been practicing walking together, holding hands, stopping at the kerb, and looking and listening carefully before crossing the road.
On this outing, we also practiced our sign of the week which is “stop” ✋🏼
