Had a great night last night with Coralie Paolucci, a student from Lyon who I taught in 2014 in Oxford. She is here in Edinburgh for a wedding, it was really nice to meet her family and partner too. Shame about the weather though, where is the sun?

Well, I can't believe today is my 5 year anniversary as a self employed teacher.. When I began back in February 2018, things were pretty different in the world, I had just been made redundant from a big school in Edinburgh and with 2 young kids and a family to support, it was a risk to go on my own. But with 14 years teaching in language schools behind me, I had the experience and knowledge to give it a try, and I'm glad I did..
It's been an up and down 5 years, with some lovely students and I've met and taught some genuinely interesting people along the way. Covid was a big challenge for me, and I had to change to online teaching for around 2 years, which has helped me to adapt and teach students from all over the world, as well as the local Edinburgh population.
I'd love to keep writing, but I have a lesson to teach!!
SO the final thing I want to say is THANK YOU, particularly to my family who have been a brilliant support for me, and also all the amazing students I've taught and am still teaching over the last half a decade :)

19 years ago today, around this time, I started my teacher training at Dundee college. The rest is history.. Jobs in Poland, Spain England (mainly Oxford, for 8.5 years) and Edinburgh (for the last 6.5 years have followed. I've always enjoyed my job, and I'm lucky to have visited some amazing places and met some wonderful people along the way...

Last night, I enjoyed meeting Daniel, a former student and colleague from Germany who was visiting Edinburgh with his friend. I taught him in 2012, he still loves a Scottish whisky and hasn't changed a bit since I was his his teacher all those years ago ! 😀

I have no wish to make this a political posting, in my view the Queen was a good lady who did the best for her country for more than 70 years.

Wow, today maybe the hottest ever day in Edinburgh, it's currently 31c and I think I may melt... It is hotter than Nairobi, Sydney, Miami, Budapest and Tokyo, though Madrid, Doha, Tehran and Kuwait are still hotter than us..
How is the weather where you are, and what's the hottest/coldest you ever remember? Can you study (English ) in these extreme temperatures?

As I've said for years, Edinburgh is the best place for a wee holiday - now it's just been voted the best place in the world... And if you need some English classes, I'd be happy to help :)
