Meet Adela, my “regular irregular” student! 🇬🇧📚

I first met Adela a few years ago through her brother Sergio, who was my neighbour, student and later became a good friend.

While visiting her family in Edinburgh, Adela came along to practise her English with me. Since then, every time she comes back to Scotland, she makes a point of getting in touch and coming for a couple of classes.

She’s not a fan of online lessons, so our classes only happen when she’s in Scotland. That’s why she’s officially my “regular irregular” student! 😄

English lessons can be much more than grammar and vocabulary. Sometimes they become connections that last for years.

I have availability currently and would love to help you - either in Edinburgh or online. All levels and abilities welcome, General English, Exams (eg Cambridge First/Advanced, IELTS :) Business English/help with Jobs etc.

Hello there :)
I guess I'm not alone in having a busy summer filled with interesting experiences. However, I'm now ready to help new students, either in person in Edinburgh, local schools or online to all parts of the world.
If you don't know me, I'm Jonathan, a native speaker from the Scottish Highlands,but now based in beautiful Edinburgh. I have more than 22 years teaching experience, both in Uk and abroad, in Poland and Spain. I love to help people, I'm great at helping students make connections in language, and I can assist you in focusing on the areas you need to improve to achieve your English goals.
I have availability currently and would love some new students 😉

One of the most effective ways to learn and remember vocabulary is studying words with a specific connection eg vocabulary connected to health. music or travel. Here we look at music vocabulary connected to an event happening soon in Edinburgh 🙂

Kalliopi joined me late last year for lessons, one of many Greek students I've had the pleasure of teaching over many years I've doing this job. When we began classes, she was working fulltime in Edinburgh and didn't have much chance to use English very often. We worked on her speaking and Business English skills to begin with, her confidence increased and she began to explore ways to use English outside of her work. A pleasure to teach and a fantastic lady 😊

Past Simple or Past Perfect? 🤔 If this one still trips you up, you are not alone.
Many English learners mix these two up at work or school, and it is the kind of small slip that makes a confident sentence sound a little off. 📌
The trick is simple: Past Simple is one action in the past. Past Perfect is the action that happened first, before another past action. ⏳
