Shaun recently finished this great leaflet about Sloths. He learned how to use Publisher templates, how to create and link text boxes, text wrapping images and how to use and edit Word Art among other skills.

Kieran produced this wonderful leaflet about Pandas using Microsoft Publisher. Great work, Kieran!

Whizzkids starts back today after a short summer break. I look forward to welcoming pupils back this term. We are also celebrating 25 years of Whizzkids this month! It's been a pleasure to teach so many pupils over the years and I look forward to many more wonderful years ahead!

If you're looking for something to keep the children occupied during the holidays, there are still some spaces available on the computer courses running throughout July.

We've had a busy few weeks at Whizzkids creating calendars using Microsoft Publisher. Here are just a few examples. I think they look fantastic!

This is Saul's finished pattern. He coded this using Python and learned about functions, importing modules, for loops and variables.

There are still spaces available on the holiday courses next week (17th to 21st October), so if you're looking for activities to keep the kids busy, why not have a look at what's on offer? Raspberry Pi coding course at 9.30am, Touch-typing at 10.30am, Scratch at 11.30am, Project Creation course at 2.00pm and Computer Art at 3.00pm. Each course runs for one hour each day for 5 days.

Classes | Whizzkids Each daily lesson lasts for one hour and all courses take place within the centre at 19 Morningside Drive, Edinburgh. Class sizes are limited to 5 children.

Joe used the Usborne book "Coding for Beginners using Python" to make a paint program. Having completed the code, he has modified it to add more colours and is working on adding buttons to select different brush sizes. It's great to see pupils showing understanding of the code and using logical thinking skills to develop it.

Shaun finished making a puzzle book using Microsoft Publisher yesterday. I'm about to see if I can spot all the differences!

Apologies for the lack of posts recently. It's been a busy time at Whizzkids! Here's a wee snapshot of some of the activities the pupils have been working on. The photo shows a turtle race taking place on the screen, coded using Python. Using Publisher, the children have been making puzzle booklets, information leaflets and decision dice.

The summer courses have now come to an end and Whizzkids will be closed for a holiday until 18th August. This summer, the computer art course was one of the most popular courses. Here are some of the lovely creations the children produced on the course!

Adam's been making some fantastic patterns on the Raspberry Pi course this week. He's been using the Turtle module in the Python programming language.

Here are some cute animal badges that some of the children soldered. They had to solder on a badge pin, LED and battery clip.

I’m delighted to confirm that Whizzkids will reopen on Monday 26th April. I look forward to welcoming everyone back soon!

Last day of lessons today before Christmas!

The plan was to resume lessons on 6th January but, due the Covid restrictions that will be in place from Boxing Day, Whizzkids will have to remain closed a bit longer. I will confirm a start back date as soon as I am able to.

In the meantime, I hope everyone has a lovely Christmas and I wish you all good health and happiness in 2021!

Hooray! Whizzkids will be open again on Wednesday 15th July. I look forward to seeing everyone again very soon!

Good morning! Classes at Whizzkids will run today as usual. Please be reassured that desks and equipment are kept thoroughly clean and we have plenty hand sanitiser and soap to ensure cleanliness is maintained. Hope everyone's keeping well.

After a lovely relaxing holiday it's great to be back at Whizzkids. I had intended to post lots of photos of the things children got up to on the holiday courses but, as usual, time flew by and my memory failed me!

This week I have had the pleasure of teaching Chihina from Japan. Here are just some of the wonderful things she made on the computer art course.

Certificates arrived from OCR this morning for Lucy, Jamie and Cameron. Congratulations to them for passing their latest ITQ exams!

A big thank you to James who was on work experience at Whizzkids this week. He helped many of the children make light switches and motion sensors with the Raspberry Pi and they all had great fun! 😀
