On Wednesday our U16 and U18 Rugby teams will play in the finals of the Scottish Schools Cup at Murrayfield ๐Ÿ‰

Our next 'Come for a Coffee' morning is on tomorrow morning, Tuesday 28 Nov, all welcome! No booking needed, just turn up, 10.30am at The Pavilion at Myreside for tea, coffee, baking and a blether. We're taking a break in December but will be back on Tuesday 30 Jan 2024 and the last Tuesday of the month thereafter!

Great to chat to Tom Clay, our Hamilton Fellow during 1992-1993, when he popped in for a visit last week. This was Tom's first visit back to the UK in 20 years before he headed back to the US for Thanksgiving.

Congratulations to Ben Shankland (Class of 2022) who is a finalist for BBC Radio Scotlandโ€™s Young Jazz Musician of the Year 2023 - best of luck for your performance at the end of the month Ben! Ben has also been nominated in the 'Rising Star' category of the 2023 Scottish Jazz Awards. Vote for him here: https://www.jazzfest.co.uk/awards/ He's next performing as part of the Edinburgh Jazz and Blues festival on 24 November.

Lest we forget. Martha Dickson (Class of 1955) has been collecting for the Scottish Poppy Appeal since she was 12 and after she was married was placing up to 300 boxes in the West End. A few years ago Martha scaled back to just organising 40 volunteers and some shops, in addition to her daily collections at the Haymarket morning commuter times! We recently welcomed back Allan Leal (Class of 1993) to give a talk to our S3 pupils. One of Allan's memories of S6 was having a talk in the music auditorium from the former prime minister Edward Heath, so he felt he had a lot to live up to!

It was great to see Tommy and Davy Zyw (Class of 2005) yesterday, who are our new Junior Duke ambassadors for 2023/24. They enjoyed a brief visit to their old classroom before inspiring our Junior School pupils at assembly with their presentation on perseverance, motivation and achievement.

The Principal, Melvyn, and his wife, Catherine, took time out during their trip to Istanbul to drive to Gallipoli to lay a wreath at the Helles Memorial. In the attempted Allied invasion in summer 1915, 34 Watsonians sadly met their deaths.

We were also delighted to welcome his son, Ebo, on a visit to the School earlier this year, all the way from Ghana. Mike Leonard, Director of PE and Sport was able to let Ebo see the trophies and silverware George had won while here at GWC!
