We are delighted to celebrate the remarkable success of former St Maryโ€™s Music School pupil William Fielding, who has been awarded First Prize in Organ at the 2026 Internationaler Musikwettbewerb der ARD.

The ARD International Music Competition is one of the worldโ€™s leading competitions for young classical musicians, described by Sir Simon Rattle as the โ€œOlympic Games of musicโ€. This yearโ€™s competition marks its 75th anniversary, with the organ category returning for the first time in 15 years.

William studied at St Maryโ€™s Music School from 2015โ€“2018 before continuing his studies at the Royal College of Music and developing his specialism in the French organ tradition. He is now based in France, having studied at the conservatoires of Toulouse and Paris.

Our Experience Days are designed to be much more than a visit. They give young musicians the opportunity to get involved, make music, meet our pupils and staff and discover what life at St Maryโ€™s Music School could be like.

Expect a full day of bass related activities with an excellent line-up including Nikita Naumov, Jamie Kenny, May Halyburton, Adrian Bornet, Andrew Robb and Stewart Wilson.

And the best bit? You donโ€™t have to already be a bass player. Anyone of any age can come along and try the double bass for the first time.

So whether youโ€™re already fluent in the language of the low notes, youโ€™re a bass player in the making, or you simply fancy finding out what all the fuss is aboutโ€ฆ

A fantastic line-up awaits at St Mary's Cathedral, Edinburgh as more than ten of our former pupils return to perform in a special concert.

The concert will be conducted by Alexander Kwon (2024) and will feature violinist India Reilly (2024), with some current St Mary's Music School pupils helping to make up the orchestra. It's a wonderful celebration of the next generation of musicians, bringing together former and current pupils in a shared performance.

We hope you'll join us to support these exceptional young musicians. Tickets are ยฃ10, ยฃ9 (concessions) and ยฃ5 (students), and will be available on the door.
