Delighted to be involved in this brilliant project! 🐙

🐙 Our P6/7 Homework Clubbers have got involved with for and this month!

As octopuses have 8 arms, and we’ve been practising the 8x table, they created some 8x table octopuses 🐙 A fun way to remember multiples of 8!

👀They’ll be going up in the windows at The Wash House when we reopen on Monday, so have a look out for them during the week, or if you’re doing the Art Walk next weekend ☺️

What a brilliant start to Homework Club this week! ⭐️

It’s been so lovely to welcome all the kids - some are back for a 2nd or even 3rd year with me, and I’ve loved getting to meet some new faces too ☺️

There are big changes at HC this year…the groups are now split into P3-5 and P6/7 groups, and my new tutor, Natasha, has started working with the Thursday group.

This week has been all about getting to know each other through lots of fun activities, as well as catching up on everyone’s holiday news. Establishing a safe environment and building relationships with each other is such an important thing to do at the start of a new school year. It builds trust and helps the children to feel part of the group, and helps them to grow in confidence when working with different children.

I love that Homework Club brings kids together from different schools and these friendships go onto High School…I had 2 kids in P7 last year from different schools and they became such good friends that they requested to be in the same form in S1 this year 👏🏻😀

Homework Club is already FULLY BOOKED with waiting lists available for each day, so if you’ve been thinking about joining us, please do get in touch and I can pop you on the list.

Wishing everyone starting school today a massive GOOD LUCK…whether it’s your child’s first day of primary, returning for another year or starting High School, just remember:

⭐️ Mistakes are just proof that you are trying.

⭐️ Don't be afraid to ask questions, stay curious, and give it your best.

⭐️ Learning is a marathon, not a sprint.

⭐️ Parents - if they come home feeling a bit overwhelmed, that is completely normal. Just let them rest and give them time to talk - they’ll tell you all about it when they’re ready!

To all my amazing Homework Club kids and 1-1 students…I can’t wait to see you all next week and to hear all about your holidays ☺️

First day working at my local High School, where I’ll be working on Maths intervention and working with non-school attenders for a few hours a week. It’s very different from what I’m used to but I’m looking forward to helping the students to really get to grips with their maths ☺️⭐️

⭐️ Portobello Homework Club is back for another year!

⭐️ Sessions run from 3.30-5pm (Mondays - Thursdays) and are packed with loads of great games and activities designed to build confidence in your child’s learning and to reinforce what they’re learning in school.

⭐️ Open to any child in the local area, from any local school or Home Ed kids.

⭐️ I have ONE space left on Thursdays for the P3-5 group, so if you’ve been thinking of joining us, then please message me via WhatsApp to grab the last spot! ☺️

It might be the holidays, but some of my students have kept their learning going over the summer with some fun 1-1 sessions to help them feel ready for the new term. Lots of dice games to practise mental maths as well as fractions, time and literacy covered 👍🏻👏🏻
Well done everyone!

Aww! Just received this lovely message from one of my parents today ☺️

Thank you, Gemma! I know he loves his sessions with you and gets so much from them.
And a big thanks for being such an awesome tutor - we’re so thankful for all you’ve done for him. It’s made a huge difference and we’re both so grateful for your hard work, patience and understanding. 🌟
