Persevere Music

Persevere Music Bass and Guitar tuition in Edinburgh and Online. Music lessons for all ages, abilities and styles. B Welcome to Persevere Music. Hi, I'm Roland Wagstaff.

I've been teaching music to private students in the Edinburgh area since 1998 and hav been playing music since the early 1980s. I hold a Higher National Diploma in Modern Musicianship and an Enhanced Disclosure certificate. As well as teaching, I also perform and record with rock bands and function bands. The main instruments I teach are bass and guitar, encompassing most popular styles from rock, metal and punk to folk, jazz and funk. Whether you're a beginner or a more experienced player looking to take your skills to the next level, I tailor my lesson-plans to each individual student so you'll get the most out of my one-to-one classes and quickly begin to realise your musical potential. I also teach music theory, either as a stand-alone course or within the context of instrument tuition. Many rock musicians feel alienated and confused by the abstract way that music theory is often taught, so I aim to demystify the concepts and show how a little bit of music theory can go a long way in helping you master your instrument. I call this approach Applied Rock Theory or A.R.T for short. I specialise in tutoring school and college students as they prepare for music exams. Whether you're studying Standard Grade, Int I, Int II or Higher I can help you maximise your marks in both the performance and listening exams. My lessons are priced at £25 for an hour or £20 for 45 minutes. Your first lesson is absolutely free! If you then decide to proceed the normal schedule is one lesson per week. I usually teach at my home in Leith but can arrange to come to you if that is more convenient. I want to help you become a great musician, but remember, that can only come with plenty of practice. Feel free to drop me an email at [email protected], call me on 07970322082 or simply message me via this page.

Steve Vai unveiling his new technique in a new song, "Candle Power".

Vai says, "It’s a technique that I call “joint shifting." This is where you bend a note while fretting another, but I wanted to do this technique with a combination of double and triple stop single note bends while fretting other notes and releasing bends. After considerable experimenting, I discovered it created a unique sounding passage. You can hear this technique on a few sections of the song. I certainly hope other ambitious guitar player see the potential in this technique and take it to the moon!"

Hey Folks, Vai here. I wanted to challenge myself for my 60th birthday and decided to record a simple trio track. I gave myself some parameters to work withi...

More is always more, but less can *occasionally* be more. A good post-punk guitar "non-solo" can be just as effective as a metal shred-fest.
John McGeoch totally nails it in the middle eight of this Banshees classic.
