- I keep up-to-date with legislation and the National Care Standards code of practice
- I gather information about the children and their needs by discussing it with the parents while respecting their need for confidentiality
- I report back to parents and discuss with them all aspects of my service, any concerns as well as the children’s activities, behaviour, progress and needs
- I ensure children have access to fresh air and exercise and make best use of outdoor space available, I plan and organize outings, attend play groups, classed and soft play
- I always try to make the best possible use of the space, toys and educational materials available, appropriately to the ages and stage of development of each child, offering flexible activities within a planned routine, respecting the individual needs and interests of the children by including them in the process of planning the activities
- I encourage positive behaviour and attitudes in children, helping them form healthy relationships with others, promoting equality, diversity, fairness and building self-esteem by valuing each child as an individual and ensuring that the children are happy and enjoy being in my care. I always respond appropriately to any instances of bullying and discrimination.
- I prepare healthy meals for children and organize their mealtime taking into consideration their individual dietary requirements and allergies and parents' suggestions and encourage the children’s active participation in meal preparation and independence at the table
- I keep appropriate records of each child’s activities, developmental achievements, ailments and injuries details, outings, etc. and always share and discuss them thoroughly with their parents
- I am always open to any suggestions from the parents and encourage their active participation in the process of planning all aspects of my service
