It's National Moon Day! Did you know?

🌙 It takes 27.3 days for the Moon to travel all the way around the Earth and complete its orbit.

🌙 Although the Moon shines bright in the night sky, it doesn’t produce its own light. We see the Moon because it reflects light from the Sun.

🌙 The temperature on the Moon varies from super hot to super cold! When the Sun hits its surface, temperatures can reach a scorching 127°C. But when the Sun ‘goes down’, temperatures can plummet to around -153°C. Brr…

🌙 The moon controls our ocean - the Moon's gravity pulls on Earth's oceans, which creates the daily rise and fall of the water known as tides.

It's World Chimpanzee Day! Did you know?

🙊 The DNA (the material that determines how a living thing will look and function) of chimps and humans is 98.5% the same?

🙊 In the wild, chimpanzees live in ‘communities’ made up of around 15 to 80 members led by a dominant, alpha male.

🙊 Females generally give birth to a single chimp (or occasionally twins) every five to six years.

🙊 Only around 150,000-200,000 chimpanzees remain in the wild today.

We had such a lovely day providing childcare at Dundas yesterday.

A sunny walk down to the lake, lots of laughter, and even more excitement when we met some new animal friends — Lurpak, Cloud, Kirsty and Hannah made the day extra special.

Every year on 3rd June, people all over the world celebrate World Bicycle Day. This special day was created by the United Nations General Assembly in April 2018 to honor the bicycle.

It's World Otter Day! Did you know...?

🦦Sea otters have their own method for opening shellfish.

🦦A sea otter will lay on its back, put a rock on its chest, and then smash the mollusc onto the rock until it breaks open. The otters will even keep hold of the same rock to use it as a tool!

🦦When sleeping, sea otters will tangle themselves in kelp or hold the paw of another otter to stop themselves from floating away.

🦦Otters have the thickest fur of any mammal in the animal kingdom. They have two layers of dense hair to keep them warm and to help with buoyancy in water.

🦦Giant river otters are the most talkative of all otter species. They have 22 different noises that they make for different situations.

🦦A group of otters has a different name depending on whether they're on water or land. A group of otters on land is called a romp, and a group on water is called a raft.

🐝 Their wings beat crazy fast: around 130 – 200 times per second!

🐝 Bumblebees are a peaceful kind of bee. They will only sting if they feel threatened.

🐝 Unlike Honeybees, Bumblebees do not die if they sting you.

🐝 Male Bumblebees don’t have a stinger at all. The stinging is all up to the females.
