Messy play is important for young children, giving them endless ways to develop and learn. Our classes are fun and exciting for children and help to improve their co-ordination, communicative and cognitive abilities, as well as their self-esteem and social skills. By allowing children to explore their senses while having fun, messy play provides a relaxing therapy that encourages sensory responsiveness without placing stressful expectations on the child. Messy Play is by its very definition messy and it is a fun and interesting way for children to explore and learn about the world around them. It allows children to use everyday materials in a different way and as a result children make discoveries that are new to them. Children’s learning will be greatly reduced if they are worried about the mess they are making. It is therefore really important to avoid the idea that getting dirty is a bad thing and instead concentrate on ways to keep it within limits. We appreciate that this can be difficult in the home as many of us do not have a practical space for this and that is where Messy Munchkins can help. The sessions offer the children an opportunity to have fun in a messy and social way. Our sessions run for an hour, and are facilitated on a free play basis. This free play allows children to use their creativity during the session, find out what they really like, acquire and practise their social skills, and solve problems. Free play is crucial in helping your child develop socially, emotionally and cognitively. The Class leader will facilitate the free play session, engage in the messy play process, and support the children’s learning by showing possible ways to explore the new materials and equipment. This leaves you, the parent, and the opportunity to focus on the precious quality time you have with your child. Classes are taking place at various venues around Edinburgh and we would love for you to join us.
