CALL TO ACTION - email your MSP today asking them to support this motion in the Scottish Parliament for refugee resettlement from the Greek Islands in Scotland!
*** CALL TO ACTION ***
Our friends from the Highlands chapter of Europe Must Act have the support of John Finnie MSP, who has raised a motion in the Scottish Parliament - "Relief for Refugees Held on the Aegean Islands".
Details here:
https://www.parliament.scot/parliamentarybusiness/28877.aspx?SearchType=Advance&ReferenceNumbers=S5M-22192&ResultsPerPage=10
We need 30 MSPs to support this motion before the 29th of July, otherwise it will expire due to the parliamentary recess, (currently we have the support of 10 MSPs). This is a first step to gaining the support to the Scottish Parliament, who can then lobby the UK government to resettle refugees from the Greek islands and create a more human migration policy.
Here is our template letter for writing to your Edinburgh MSPs: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Y40ohYHkzYyyjF7BIJltzrcTUfW4dskRfYLviB-BXfc/edit?usp=sharing
You can write to your constituent MSP AND your regional MSPs - up to 8 people. Find them using write to them:

Please join us in this urgent call to action!

This week is WORLD REFUGEE WEEK!
EUID is a proud supporter of Europe Must Act and the 'Edinburgh Must Act' campaign. Edinburgh is one of 18 cities in the UK and over 50 across Europe with an EMA chapter demanding the resettlement of refugees from the Greek Islands and a more humane European migration policy.
There are over 37,000 refugees living in deplorable conditions on the Aegean Islands.
People live under tarpaulins or flimsy tents through heatwaves, rainstorms and snow.
No longer based in Edinburgh? Find your nearest city chapter or start a chapter in your city! https://www.europemustact.org/

Next up is Lizzie our secretary telling you why you should run for a committee position next year! Send a 2 minute video to [email protected] telling us why you would be a suitable candidate for the role of: President, Secretary, Publicity, Social Secretary or Creative Director.
'I've loved being on the committee! It gave me a sense of commitment and involvement that I didn't have my previous years of uni, while not being overwhelming or requiring too much time. As a 4th year the role still felt manageable to me.
The weekly meetings, event organisation, and small tasks were a welcome part of my week. As a secretary I was particularly responsible for taking meeting notes, sharing minutes to committee members, and booking rooms. I especially liked being part of a passionate, inclusive, and encouraging group of people who all gave each other autonomy and support in organising events.
This is your chance to host some really interesting speakers and facilitate some great discussions on development issues and topics! So get involved!'

Thinking of running for a committee position next year? (see our AGM event/post). Here is a little bit about more about us!
What do we do?
We hold frequent events in the central area of Edinburgh University:
-Hosting evening lectures and presentations performed by guest speakers such as professors, politicians, and representatives from NGOs.
-Screening documentaries to explore international development in an informative, entertaining way.
-Hosting informal debates to stimulate discussion and provide an open forum for students to express their own ideas and opinions.
- Coordinating social events with other societies, such as last year’s “African Food Battle,” which brought food, comedy, and music from four African countries to Edinburgh’s famous Earthy café.
