Love history? Studying a postgrad course at ? Adopt our society! www.eusa.ed.ac.uk/activities/societies/startasociety/adopt
With heavy hearts our committee are moving on to further studies or returning to their home countries so have put the beloved LAMPS society up for adoption. Last year we ran a bumper seminar series that saw students from across the globe present their research, and we enjoyed trips to the pub and historic sites near Edinburgh.
A respected name among history departments, our society always gets a healthy response to calls for papers and offers a great way for students to connect with other history lovers and collaborate on ideas. Get in touch with the to find out more about adopting our society!

I’m sorry to say that Reece was attacked by a ‘service dog’ fraud as we walked to the grocery store on Monday. She was bitten on her shoulder and over her ribs and had multiple puncture wounds and hematomas. The aggressive dog’s owners immediately fled, refused to provide their information when I followed them a short distance down our block, and were extremely angry with me….for their dog biting mine? The police and vet have made records of the incident and Reece’s injuries and are searching for the dog’s owners. She is on antibiotics and pain meds and seems to be fairly shaken by the incident. She just isn’t her happy self and is a bit skittish and clingy. She is showing signs of minor anxiety around other dogs but we will begin to work through it. Incidents like this have ended the careers of thousands of working dogs in the US. Reece is very confident and loves to work so I’m not particularly concerned about that aspect with her but I know it will take some time to get her to be 100% comfortable again. Thanks to everyone for following along for so long and I hope all 1,1100 of you stay safe and vigilant around unknown dogs. 01/06/2023

Reece is a medical assistance dog who's owner is a student at School of History, Classics and Archaeology, University of Edinburgh. They are beloved members of our student society and have come to many of our lectures and day trips this year. Sadly Reece was attacked by another dog while with her human on W Nicholson Street in central Edinburgh, near the Farmfoods store, at 4:30pm on Monday. There is more info about the attack and how you can help identify the culprit or make a donation to cover the cost of Reece's vetinary treatment in the meantime here: https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/reece-vet-bills

Tonight, the official unveiling of Edinburgh’s one and only 11th century Swedish runestone took place 🥂
Originally erected in Morgongåva, the stone was gifted to the Scottish Society of Antiquaries in the 18th century. However, by the 21st century it was perched precariously on the muddy hillside of Edinburgh Castle - hidden behind a metal fence to avoid damage from the annual construction of temporary seating for the military tattoo.
With fundraising and loving restoration the stone was relocated to the School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures, University of Edinburgh. The pandemic delayed any official celebrations of the stones relocation - until now.
It is truly a privilege to have this medieval marvel available for the public to view freely on our campus.
