At SilverHub Jewellery School our teaching team is made up of practicing jewellery designers, Lisa Arnott, Jessica Howarth, Shirley Lowe and Lyndsay Hamilton Fairley. With passion for design education as well as their craft, this team of jewellers can inspire and enable you to discover your creativity through making.

✨"Studying the SilverHub One-Year Course changed my life."

At SilverHub, we're proud to offer some of the highest levels of jewellery education around, combining rigorous technical training with the creative freedom to develop as an artist.

Throughout the year, students build a wide range of technical skills, develop a wealth of visual and material research, and create a portfolio of work, one that not only feeds into their final year exhibition collection, but opens doors to further study. Our series of technical Master Classes lets students explore different specialisms alongside the core programme, giving them an edge as they move forward.

Former students have gone on to degree and postgraduate courses at institutions including Edinburgh College of Art, Edinburgh University, Aberdeen University, Glasgow School of Art, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design (Dundee), West Dean College, Brighton University, Birmingham School of Jewellery, Sheffield Hallam University, and Bishopsland.

Here are some words from one of our alumni on how the One-Year Course shaped their practice, confidence, and career as a contemporary jewellery artist.

"Studying the SilverHub One-Year Course changed my life. I chose the one-year course for its strong focus on artistic and design skills, as well as technical skills. Over the year, my technical skills improved significantly, and I learnt a great deal from the masterclass sessions, and I have taken many of those skills forward into my own practice.

On the artistic and design side of things, the one-year course really opened my eyes to what jewellery can be, as an art form, and as adornment. We were constantly encouraged to push boundaries and challenge our preconceived notions to find our own voices as contemporary jewellery artists.

I benefited so much from the course that I returned for a second year, and the second year was just as beneficial as the first. I now feel much more confident in my own practice and have continued to take part in exhibitions, curated markets, and interdisciplinary art projects."

While summer might be winding down and autumn's on its way, our day and evening jewellery making classes are buzzing with creativity! (We've got a couple of spots left if you'd love to join in, just get in touch.)

Over the next few days, we'd like to shine a light on our amazing teaching team at SilverHub, the people who make it all happen. First up is the wonderful Carly!

Carly - jeweller, designer and SilverHub tutor!

Based in Edinburgh, Carly graduated from Edinburgh College of Art and is also a graduate of the SilverHub One Year Course. She has continued to develop her jewellery practice through further study in Birmingham, Glasgow and at the Goldsmiths’ Centre in London.

An award-winning jeweller, Carly’s contemporary medal work has been acquired by the British Museum. Her practice explores a range of techniques, with particular specialisms in stone setting, wax carving and enamelling.

Carly has been teaching at SilverHub for the past four years, sharing her knowledge, technical skills and passion for jewellery making with students of all levels.

We’re delighted to have Carly as part of the SilverHub teaching team!

Screen-free, hands-on, and slightly messy is the best way!

There's something genuinely special about spending a couple of hours away from your phone, hunched over a workbench, figuring out how metal actually bends, melts, and takes shape under your hands. No notifications, no scrolling, only you and whatever you decide to make.

Our students describe our classes as supportive, meditative, and seriously fun, with just enough challenge to keep you on your toes (in the best way possible!).
