Ukrainian St Margaret's Saturday School

The last school day before the Easter holidays at our school was dedicated to Easter traditions.

Students learned about how Easter is celebrated in Ukraine and the significance of this holiday, which is one of the most important and brings families together around the festive table.

During the lessons, children created traditional pysanky and also took part in a local tradition — an Easter egg hunt.

We wish everyone a bright and warm Easter, spent with family.🐣

Останній навчальний день перед Великодніми святами у нашій школі був присвячений великодній тематиці.

Учні ознайомилися з традиціями святкування Великодня в Україні та значенням цього свята, яке є одним із найважливіших і об’єднує родини за святковим столом.

Під час занять діти створювали писанки, а також долучилися до місцевої традиції - пошуку великодніх яєць.

Також щиро дякуємо St Stephen’s Comely Bank church, St John’s Episcopal church та St Cuthbert's Parish Church за гостинність і надане приміщення, де відбуваються наші заняття.

Last Saturday was a special day for our Ukrainian Saturday School.

In addition to regular lessons, we held the annual General Meeting (AGM) with the school’s Directors, teachers, parents, and children. The meeting reviewed the past year, summarised achievements, and discussed plans for the future.

Around 30 students attend our school each Saturday, so an important decision was made to extend the school day to four hours.

We are particularly proud that our school has successfully passed verification by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine (Protocol No. 1, 29 September 2025). This means that our students’ learning outcomes are officially recognised in Ukraine, and grades can be transferred without repeating the school year upon returning.

The school is now included in the official Ministry list, confirming that our programmes meet national standards. This also allows students to maintain a connection with Ukrainian education, while teachers can officially recognise their teaching experience and professional qualifications.

We sincerely thank everyone who is part of our school community — together we are building an important future for our children.

Last Saturday, the pupils of Ukrainian St Margaret’s Saturday School in Edinburgh were back in class — full of energy and curiosity!

Alongside their usual subjects — Ukrainian language, mathematics, the history of Ukraine, folk art, choreography, English — the older students tried something new. Martin transformed the lesson into an exciting round of interviews, with everyone taking turns as interviewer and interviewee.

The discussions ranged from Scotland’s unpredictable weather to moving to a new country and the experience of settling in.

It was a brilliant way for everyone to ask questions, share their thoughts, practise their English, and really be heard. 🌦️💬🇺🇦

Минулої суботи учні Ukrainian St Margaret’s Saturday School у місті Edinburgh повернулися до уроків.

Окрім звичних занять — української мови, математики, історії України, народного мистецтва та англійської — на старших учнів чекав незвичний формат. Мартін перетворив їх на interviewers та interviewees, і вони обговорювали різні теми: від шотландської погоди до складнощів переїзду та інтеграції.

Такий формат особливо цікавий, адже кожен може і ставити запитання, і відповідати — висловлювати свої думки та бути почутим.

The holidays have passed, and we are getting ready to return to learning with renewed energy this Saturday.

In the photos, you can see us weaving the traditional Irish protective symbol - St Brigid’s Cross, which marks the beginning of spring; taking part in choreography classes; creating Valentine’s cards; and studying.

✨ A truly magical Christmas concert took place at our school, bringing everyone a wonderful sense of celebration and joy.
Ms Oksana, together with the children, prepared a beautiful Nativity performance, sang Christmas carols, and presented delightful dance routines.

The celebration brought together parents, families, members of the Board of Directors and its Secretary, teachers, and invited guests, filling the hall with warmth, happiness, and a genuine Christmas spirit.

The children enjoyed festive treats and received many lovely gifts.

Following the concert, our pupils began their Christmas holidays — a time for celebration, rest, family warmth, and renewed energy.

From the bottom of our hearts, we wish everyone kindness, love, happiness, peace, and a joyful festive season.

✨ У нашій школі відбувся справжній різдвяний концерт, який подарував усім відчуття свята та дива.
Пані Оксана разом з дітьми підготували чудову постановку народження Христа, співали різдвяні пісні та виконували танцювальні номери.

Свято зібрало разом батьків, рідних, Раду директорів та її секретаря, вчителів і запрошених гостей, наповнивши зал теплом, радістю та справжнім різдвяним настроєм.

Діти поласували святковими смаколиками та отримали багато чудових подарунків.

Після цього концерту для наших учнів розпочалися різдвяні канікули - час святкування, відпочинку, родинного затишку та нових сил.

Від щирого серця бажаємо всім добра, любові, щастя, миру та світлих свят!

Our school has been verified by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine on the 29th September 2025 among the first 10 Ukrainian Saturday and Sunday schools in the world.

29 вересня 2025 року Міністерство Освіти і Науки України верифікувало нашу школу як одну з перших 10 українських суботніх та недільних шкіл у світі.

The magic of Christmas is not in presents, but in good deeds.

On December 6, students from our school visited Braeburn Care Home, where they sang songs and recited poems for the local residents.
The performances included such songs as “Shchedryk,” “Mykolai,” “Chervona Ruta,” and “Oi u luzi chervona kalyna.”

Our school strives to show the local community that we not only receive support, but are also ready to help those who need it.

Магія Різдва - не в подарунках, а в добрих справах.

6 грудня учні нашої школи відвідали Braeburn Care Home, де вони співали та читали вірші для місцевих мешканців.
Пролунали такі пісні, як «Щедрик», «Миколай», «Червона рута» та «Ой у лузі червона калина».

Наша школа прагне показати місцевій громаді, що ми не лише отримуємо підтримку, а й готові допомагати тим, хто цього потребує.

Малі добрі справи створюють велику різдвяну магію 💛💙✨

They say that the festive spirit needs to be created — and we couldn’t agree more!
When it comes to the winter holidays, it’s impossible not to think of traditional Ukrainian symbols such as the Didukh or the Christmas Spider.

So together with the children, we immersed ourselves in these traditions and made our own “spiders” — Christmas decorations traditionally crafted from straw in Ukraine.

We’re delighted to introduce our talented children to these fascinating Ukrainian traditions. ✨💛💙

Кажуть, що святковий настрій потрібно створювати - і ми з цим повністю згодні!

Коли йдеться про зимові свята, неможливо не згадати про українські обереги: Дідух чи різдвяного Павука.

Тож і ми разом з дітьми поринули у традиції та створили власних «павуків» - різдвяні прикраси, які в Україні роблять із соломи. Ми раді знайомити наших талановитих дітей з цікавими українськими традиціями. ✨💛💙

Another Saturday has whizzed by at our Ukrainian Saturday School!

The children continue to immerse themselves in their studies: Ukrainian language, Maths, Ukrainian History, Folk Art and English.
The atmosphere — as ever — was cheerful, creative and wonderfully lively.

At the same time, preparations for our Christmas concert are well underway, with the children already actively taking part in rehearsals.

Ще одна субота промайнула у нашій українській суботній школі!
