PAUSE HERE ⏸️
This year, amidst the buzz and colour of Edinburgh Fringe, one performance quietly asks for something different: to be witnessed.
‘SOMEONE LIKE ME’ is a powerful solo piece from Ukrainian theatre group ‘Nafta’, travelling from Kharkiv to share their work on the world’s largest performing arts stage. They are the only Ukrainian theatre company performing at the Fringe this year.
Directed and performed by Nina Khyzhna, the play follows a disembodied being who learns to inhabit the bodies of others, understanding fear, resistance, survival and even joy through movement.
Based on real interviews with Ukrainians aged 6 to 90, Someone Like Me captures what it means to live through war. Their voices live in muscle memory, in tension, stillness, shaking, dancing. It’s not just a story of trauma, but of adaptation, care, contradiction, and the quiet strength it takes to keep going.
