Cargilfield School

Cargilfield School Cargilfield is a family friendly Prep School in Edinburgh for girls and boys aged 3 to 13, educating and inspiring children since 1873.

We were named the Best Prep School in the UK for 2026 by Tatler Magazine. Cargilfield is a Scottish independent day and boarding prep school in Edinburgh for 300 girls and boys ages 3 to 13 and has been educating and inspiring children since 1873. We believe in developing vital life skills such as independence, curiosity, kindness and positive self-esteem, alongside academic advancement, to prepare children for their later education journey and provide them with lifelong memories. We nurture all children to leave Cargilfield with lively, enquiring minds and with a confidence in who they are, in their values, and the contribution they make to their community. We achieve this by teaching each individual within small classes, setting high expectations of the children, and making sure that learning happens in all aspects of daily school life. We can also offer a tailored experience of boarding creating a “home-from-home” experience to suit modern families. Where Learning is an Everyday Adventure.

P2 started the year reading a fantastic story by Peter Reynolds called "The Dot". This teaches us all about the importance of "having a go" and making that first step even when we think we can't do something. We applied our learning by creating hundreds of colourful dots to decorate our classrooms, inspired by the work of different artists. In celebration of the work of the late artist Yayoi Kusama, who was famous for her dotty pictures, we also took part in a collaborative "Obliteration Table", inspired by the artist's Obliteration Rooms. We worked together to fill the blank space with beautiful dots in all shapes and sizes.

Form 6 have just returned from a wonderful weekend at the Scout Station in Lochearnhead. The group enjoyed an action-packed few days filled with fun, adventure, and friendship.

A highlight of the weekend was getting out on the water with Beyond Adventure, where everyone had the opportunity to take part in canoeing and stand-up paddleboarding. The pupils embraced the challenges enthusiastically and had a fantastic time developing their confidence and teamwork skills.

Back on land, there was plenty of excitement with games of laser tag and manhunt, campfires and smores as well as time to relax, socialise, and enjoy each other’s company.

A huge thank you to Miss Hastie Smith, Mrs Maclennan, Mr Dunlop and our Gaps Patrick and Jack who helped make the trip such an enjoyable and memorable one.

Nursery are back on their Friday adventures. Today they chose to go to beach and we all had lots of fun exploring the pools of water looking for crabs and other animals. We made sandcastles, wrote our names in the sand and discussed how sand is made. Another fantastic outdoor adventure!

If you would like to find out more about our Nursery, come along to our Open Morning on Friday 2nd October. Book your place using the link below.
