Join us for our first talk of the year with Professor Paul Brennan on Tuesday 30th September 6-7pm in the RMS rooms.
Paul Brennan is Professor of Clinical and Experimental neurosurgery at the University of Edinburgh, Honorary Consultant Neurosurgeon and Clinical Director at NHS Lothian. He is a Council Member of the Royal College Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Paul combines his clinical practice focused on surgical neuro-oncology with a broad portfolio of research. His research spans the laboratory and the clinic, combining molecular, epidemiology and clinical investigation to guide rationale innovation to improve patient care. He collaborates on bringing innovative technologies to the clinic, developing the clinical and scientific evidence for adoption into routine care.
The tumour microenvironment, in particular immune cells, are increasingly recognised as pivotal to cancer cell biology across a range of tumour types. Myeloid cells are the most common cell type in GBM, more prevalent than even tumour cells. The usual role of myeloid cells includes phagocytosis of abnormal cells, but in GBM these myeloid cells are thought instead to promote tumour cell growth. The precise mechanisms of this are under investigation, including by our group.
Spaces are limited so sign up using the link in the bio.
