Last night I shared a very personal new work in progress open floor scratch night!

It was raw, rough and real and I'm glad i put it out there. "Between here and there" is a complex knot of decolonisation, migration, family heritage and identity, as you can imagine it's a tricky one to untie...

It's hopefully the start of an exciting new journey. I'm very grateful to have had the wonderful help me with the dramaturgy and Festival theatre Studio for giving me the platform to experiment safely.

Very excited to be presenting a new work in progress as part of OPEN FLOOR Studio this Friday 14/4!

I'll be in excellent company to present "Between here and there" a new piece of writing exploring my family's pied noir heritage, stories of identity, migration and (de)colonisation, dramaturgy by the phenomenal .

About this long awaited, much-needed weekend with the amazing ...

Food bellies and bellies full of laughters, fashion, more food, cuddles, full of cold, inspiring chats, herbal teas aplenty, "classic" films and so much love!

We don't see each other as much as we'd like but when we do, it's like we never left each other! 😽

This is a special one...

Although my artistic practice and interest have mostly been in devising performance over the years, I've always enjoyed writing in French and in English on the side. Recently, I decided to experiment and challenge myself and tap more into writing as a starting point for creating new work and it's been joyous and stimulating!

Still struggling with calling myself a writer and dealing with imposter syndrome but I'm making my way one step at a time along this new route...

A few people have helped me during this journey and I'm very grateful for their support.

On 8th March, is giving me my first professional platform to share this writing as an emerging playwright, and i'm hugely thankful! It might be pish ha ha but I'm having fun rehearsing it and exploring the new role!

Finally, how refreshing it is to work with a majoritarily international cast and creative team! Pushing hard for those adopted Scots voices to be heard loud and proud!

Debunking cultural stereotypes + accents+ Macbeth+ reclaiming our witchy power + celebrating womanhood and otherness!
Sounds like something you'd enjoy?

So this is happening and I'm equally both excited and sh****ng my pants...

Massive imposter syndrome here as I delve into a new side of my artistic practice... writing in between and about languages has always pricked my curiosity and I'm finally giving it a proper go...

Come and see for yourself what my writing has to say !

Ps: will be looking for 3 bilingual (non-native to scotland)actresses for that piece and I know you're out there, so keep your eyes peeled for that casting call! 😉

Blurry 2022 >> Joyful 2023

You may have noticed that we’ve been a little quiet here lately. The reason why, is that we have taken the difficult but necessary decision to close Theatre Sans Accents.

After nearly 7 years of activity, we’ve come to the conclusion that in the current economic crisis we’re living in and with the deep uncertainty that the arts industry is experiencing right now, it is no longer sustainable to keep TSA going, at least not in the way it was built or intended to.

When i set up Theatre Sans Accents at the end of 2015/beginning of 2016, I wanted to create my own work as a result of the lack of representation and opportunities for diverse and bilingual performers. I wanted to share my ways of working, to demystify language learning, to develop new innovative ways to communicate beyond language and cultural boundaries, to collaborate with other like-minded artists and give ourselves more space and voice on the Scottish theatre scene.
All these goals, I am incredibly proud and grateful that I have (to a certain extent) managed to achieve them.

Theatre Sans Accents, it’s been:

100s of community and school workshops teaching French and English (EAL) through drama to children and adults.
6 am-dram productions of LA TROUPE
5 children French Drama holiday camps
1 Edinburgh Multilingual Stories Festival (EMSF) with Bilingualism Matters
1 Creative Edinburgh Collaboration Award
1 award-winning mini web series ARTS IN TONGUES
12 participations to festivals (Fringe, International, Innovative Learning Week, Arts Across Learning)
5 funded (private+public) productions and works in progress: Where Are You?, Danger Duvall: Space/Time Adventurer, Les Doigts, KNOTS, Lost in Translation: A Bilingual Journey.
unquantifiable invaluable collaborations with talented artists (can’t tag everyone without becoming spam I’m afraid)

I want to particularly thank Marcus Bazley who was at the inception of the company, Thomas Durham whose designs brought the whole concept to life, Mark Wallace, my sounding board full of good advice and who kept me going when I had doubts, and last but not least EPAD and Bilingualism Matters who helped TSA take its first steps in the industry.

Throughout the years,TSA was mostly managed on my own, a one woman band, juggling tasks and responsibilities, it’s been my baby and it’s a well known fact that it takes a village to raise a kid so it would have never stood for so long without the help of other artists and contributors, you know who you are so thank you to have believed in my dream with me.

Although the curtains fall on Theatre Sans Accents, this is not entirely goodbye.

First of, I’m currently planning a wee party for us to send TSA off as it should be and celebrate what a brilliant adventure it’s been, so keep your eyes peeled for the invite :)

Finally, even though, this is the end of TSA’s journey, it’s only the beginning of another one and I’m already working on something very exciting behind the scenes to share with you in 2023 so as I said, this is no farewell to the theatre industry, quite the opposite. I’ve learnt so much with Theatre Sans Accents and I’m intending to put all this experience to good use, to bigger and better use… ;)

Merci,

Marion

A few months ago, I took part in an amazing project called "Local Foreigners" by photographer Maryna Sulym who decided to capture the many faces and stories of migrants in the UK. I was truly honoured and proud to be able to share my story with her.

You can read it below and see all the other people she met:
