I strongly believe that as educators, we must adjust our pedagogical strategies according to the needs of our learners — because meaningful learning does not happen through memorization alone.

One methodology that has deeply transformed my classroom is Project-Based Learning (PBL), where students learn language through creativity, inquiry, collaboration, and real-world problem solving.

In my Spanish 2 class, while teaching “Cuando éramos niños,” I replaced traditional vocabulary lists with a PBL activity:
Driving Question:
¿Qué tienes que tener en cuenta al diseñar una habitación para niños?

Over 2–3 weeks, students designed and constructed miniature children’s rooms based entirely on their imagination and decision-making.

Through this project, students:
learned vocabulary naturally and meaningfully
solved real-world problems about safety, comfort, and organization
applied measurement skills from a previous project
developed teamwork and time-management skills while working in trios
practiced authentic communication instead of rote memorization

What impressed me the most was that every single project looked completely different. Each child brought their own creativity, personality, and ideas into the learning process.

I strongly recommend projects like these because they engage every type of learner — including ADHD learners — while creating meaningful participation, creativity, and authentic language use in the classroom.

This project reminded me that language learning becomes most powerful when students are not just memorizing words, but using language to create, think, solve problems, and connect learning to the real world.
