Congratulations to four pupils from the current 4ths who qualified for the 2026 UKMT Junior Mathematical Olympiad this summer. They completed a gruelling two-hour paper alongside some of the top young mathematicians across the UK. Andrew and Toby achieved Merits, while Alice and Euan achieved Distinctions, as well as medals and book prizes for being among the highest performers. Very well done to you all!👏🧮

Congratulations to A Band Pipe Major, James (7ths), who has been offered a place in the Senior Band of the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland for the coming year! Following a ten-minute performance video and audition workshop, James impressed the panel with his musicality, technique and piping standard. One of the tunes he performed was Rose Emily, written by Ross Ainslie and Duncan Chisholm for The Maclean Brothers, three Accies who rowed the Pacific Ocean from Peru to Australia, raising £1 million for clean-water projects in Madagascar 🌊🎵 A fantastic achievement and a testament to James’s talent and musical leadership within The Edinburgh Academy Pipe Band.

Our pupil-led discussion group for 5ths to 7ths is now up and running 💬

We have Felix taking the lead in chairing the sessions and steering lively discussions and debates.

So far, pupils have explored thought-provoking topics, including whether multinational companies employing low-wage workers create opportunities or exploit workers, and whether the UK should protect and preserve its heavy industries.

A great opportunity for pupils to share their views, challenge ideas and engage in thoughtful debate 🗣️

This week our Primary 1 parents took at step back into the classroom to take part in a Phonics Workshop. Hosted by our class teachers and engaging in a series of fun, interactive and dynamic activities, eager parents were shown how phonics forms the foundation of early reading.

We were delighted that so many of our community took part in this opportunity and look forward to our Primary 1 children becoming The Edinburgh Academy’s next generation of confident, capable readers and writers 📖📝

⛷️ Ski activity is back up and running for the new academic year!

It’s been fantastic to see our skiers already getting stuck into training and racing. Leaver Isabella was racing at the Scottish Dry Slopes Slalom Championships at the weekend and came away as the U21 Scottish Champion 🏆🇬🇧

Isabella is now also a coach with Lothian Ski Racing, and next week she’ll be coaching a group of EA skiers who are new to racing, helping give them a flying start as they prepare for the upcoming school race season.

We’re looking forward to another exciting year of ski racing 🎿
