Eva joined Heriot-Watt to chase a fascination with the human mind and a dream of working in forensic psychology before her journey took a slightly unexpected turn. 💞
“When I fell pregnant, I approached the University initially nervous on the impact it may have had on my studies. I was very taken aback by the amount of support I received from the University.
“I was welcomed with open arms and offered every single support system available, from mental health support to preparation for motherhood.
“The University made sure I was able to leave lectures when symptoms took their toll, gave me support and opportunities to study remotely from home and recommended support services that would cater to my needs closer to exams when I was heavily pregnant.
“The Student Wellbeing team were fantastic and offered meetings of support whilst I settled into my studies. My tutors and academic advisors were second to none and always wanted to check up on me and my bump.
“I have felt very supported and cared for during my time at the University whilst navigating motherhood. “
You’ve smashed it Eva, you should be very proud of yourself. 💙

Aishwarya’s journey from India to Scotland has been shaped by resilience in navigating a new country, adapting to a different academic culture, and carrying forward the dreams of her family. ✨
“I joined the University only a few months after the passing of my father, so it was an emotionally difficult period in my life.
“Although I was still processing grief, the University environment, especially the understanding shown by staff and support services, helped me gradually adjust to student life again.
“Being the first person in my family to pursue higher education means carrying the dreams and struggles of generations before me. I still remember going to school and seeing my father work on the streets carrying bricks and cement so that my brother and I could study and have a better future.
“From that life, to becoming a first-generation graduate and studying at the Edinburgh Business School, feels surreal to me.”
We’re incredibly proud of you, Aishwarya. 💙

Choosing to study Fashion Branding and Promotion was a natural step for Olive. Moving from Malaysia to Scotland marked a transformative chapter in her life. 💫
During her time at University, Olive embraced a wide range of hands-on opportunities, from becoming a finalist in the Design for Change Challenge with her team’s innovative app concept, to creating her final-year honours project, The Living Capsule Project.
Her work explored the intersection of fashion, culture, and storytelling, aiming to preserve heritage and amplify underrepresented voices.
Olive’s journey is one of courage, creativity, and cultural connection. By stepping into a new environment and embracing every opportunity, she has not only developed her skills but also discovered the power of storytelling to create meaningful impact.
